AKC NATIONAL OWNER-HANDLED SERIES SEE PAGE 3 FOR CLUBS OFFERING THE AKC NATIONAL OWNER-HANDLED SERIES The AKC National Owner-Handled Series is a non-titling competition for dogs that are exhibited by their owners that are not professional handlers. “DON’T FORGET TO CHECK THE OWNER-HANDLED BOX ON THE ENTRY FORM IF ENTERING THIS COMPETITION.” All dogs that are owner-handled and are not exhibited in the National Owner-Handled Series by professional handlers* meet the requirements for this competition. Exhibitors must declare their dog is Owner-Handled eligible at the time of entry using the check box on the entry form. Eligible dogs will be identified by an asterisk in the steward’s book & the catalog. Dogs must be handled throughout the breed level competition for the regular show by an eligible owner. Professional handlers, household members and current assistants to professional handlers may not exhibit the dog in any AKC National Owner-Handled Series competition during the entire show. A current assistant is defined by anyone employed by a professional handler on a full-time basis, or assisting a professional handler at the show or any show during the clus- ter/weekend, however current assistants that are eligible to compete in Junior Showmanship (meet age and amateur status requirements) may participate in NOHS. Owner-Handled Best of Breed will be selected from the dogs that are competing in the Best of Breed competition including Winners Dog, Winners Bitch and winners of the non-regular classes. The breed will not be represented in the Owner-Handled Group if there is no eligible dog compet- ing in the Best of Breed, or in Best of Winners competition. *Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional han- dlers’ organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay within the last five years. AFGHAN HOUND CLUB OF GREATER PHOENIX Beginner Puppies (4-6 months of age) AKC Sanctioned Beginner Puppy Competition! Section 1- Classifications The Four-to-Six Month Puppy competition shall be for dogs that are four months of age and over but under six months on the day of the event. Section 2 – Entry and Eligibility Entry and eligibility requirements include: • The Four-to-Six Month Puppy event may be offered at licensed or member dog shows at the option of the show giving club. • Four-to-Six Month Puppy Competition must be listed in the premium list, entry form and judging schedule, if offered. • AKC registration number or an AKC litter number will be required for all entries. • A foreign born dog may enter this class if they are registered in the country of origin. • All entrants are to be vaccinated (including rabies) in accordance with their veterinarian’s protocol. • Dogs that are owned or co-owned by a professional handler may compete in this class, but must be handled by a non-professional handler. Professional handlers are defined as any person who belongs or has belonged to a professional handlers’ organization, distributed rate cards, or otherwise advertised or represented themselves as handling dogs for pay within the last five years. Dogs may not be exhibited by current assistants and household members of a professional handler. SEE INDIVIDUAL CLUB FOR ENTRY FEE & JUDGE Entries will close Wednesday Noon, January 15, 2020, at Superintendent’s office. ATTENTION EXHIBITORS Multiple events are using the Fairgrounds during the Cluster weekend. To better manage the parking needs of everyone, all Dog Show exhibitors will be directed to enter the site at Monte Vista and 19th Avenue. This is the entrance to the North Parking Lot. All unreserved Day of Show Parking and most Reserved Overnight vehicles will be parked in this lot. There will be a designated check-in location for those exhibitors with reserved parking spaces (RV’s, Box Vans, etc.). Upon check-in you will be directed to your reserved parking space. A facility map showing the ring layouts and parking areas will be included with the Judging Program and posted on the Onofrio Dog Shows website and Heart of the Desert Classic Dog Shows Facebook page as soon as possible after close of entries. The Show Site will be available to exhibitors at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, January 29, 2020. RV parking will be available beginning at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 29, 2020. Dogs must be removed from the show site by 8:00 pm, Monday, February 3, 2020. Fees must accompany entries. These clubs and/or their superintendent assume no responsibility for wrong or incomplete information given on the entry blank by the owner or the agent of the owner including entering a dog in a class for which it is not eligible. There is no refund of the entry fee for bitches in season entered in breed competition as they are eligible to be shown. The clubs may decline any entries for cause and may refuse to receive or may remove any dog on account of disease, viciousness or other causes and no one shall have any claim or recourse against the club or any official thereof. Effective for all shows held on or after July 1, 1980, dogs which according to their owners’ records have completed the requirements for a championship after the closing of entries for a show, but whose championships are unconfirmed, may be transferred from one of the regular classes to the Best of Breed or Variety competition, provided this transfer is made by the Superintendent at least one half hour before the start of any regular conformation judging at the show. There is no provision for unentered dogs at this show. All dogs must be on leash at all times while on the show grounds, except when in an exercise pen or obedience ring. Do not leave any dogs in closed vehicles. All persons attending this dog show hereby waive any claim for damages against the clubs, their members or agents in the event a vehicle must be entered to rescue a dog from overheating or suffocation due to improper ventilation. The welfare of an exhibitor’s child is the responsibility of the exhibitor. It is expressly understood that exhibitors will exercise control and restraint over their children at all times. TICKETS: 1. There is no admission charged to exhibitors for these shows. 2. Exhibitor’s identification tickets will be mailed to the address given on the entry blank and should be received within a reasonable time prior to the show. Contact the Superintendent if tickets are not received to make sure you are entered. Superintendent can provide this infor- mation only to exhibitors who have utilized the exhibitor code provided on the entry form. 3. Tickets returned by the post office marked “undeliverable” will be held at the Superintendent’s office. FACILITY RULES: 1. It is a violation of state law to bring alcohol, illegal drugs & weapons onto the Arizona State Fairgrounds. Any person(s) violating the state law will be escorted off the premises by Fairgrounds security. 2. Smoking (including e-cigarettes) is not permitted in any of the buildings in accordance with state statute. 3. There will be NO vehicles allowed at any time in any of the show buildings. 4. Food and beverage stands will be available on the showgrounds. 5. No selling of food or other items permitted on the grounds except as authorized through vendor contracts and other agreements with the Heart of the Desert Classic. 6. Water is available at this site. 9
7. Violations of rules & regulations or inappropriate behavior towards Arizona State Fairgrounds employees, Show Committee & officials or fellow exhibitors may subject any participant in this event to disciplinary action by the Show Committee and/or removal from the grounds by Fairgrounds Security. 8. Dogs are NOT allowed in any indoor or outdoor restroom. 9. Please be courteous and do not use handicap accessible restrooms as changing stalls. These are stalls specifically set aside for use by those who are handicapped and should be kept clear for this specified use. 10. A limited number of chairs for spectator seating will be available ringside. These chairs must remain ringside. 11. Drones may NOT be permitted on or around the Fairgrounds at any time. CRATING, SETUPS & EXERCISE AREAS: 1. Routine State Fairgrounds Security will be provided. However, dogs, equipment or personal items left on the show grounds are the responsibility of each exhibitor. Neither the Lost Dutchman Kennel Club, Inc., the Sahuaro State Kennel Club, Inc., any of the participating Group clubs, specialty clubs nor the Arizona State Fairgrounds is responsible for lost or stolen dogs or equipment. 2. Unreserved inside crating space is provided on a first come, first served basis. Roping off unused crating space is strictly prohibited & will be removed by the Show Committee. The Show Committee reserves the right to require the stacking of crates & any other remedies it may deem necessary for consolidating space. 3. NO ELECTRICAL CORDS allowed in aisles either inside the Coliseum or outside on the grounds. 4. Exercise pens may be used indoors. Pens must be set up on polyethylene sheeting if mats or carpet are not used. Sawdust or comparable absorbent material used to cover the sheeting must be disposed of along with the sheeting when vacating your setup space. 5. Each exhibitor is responsible for cleaning up his (her) own setup area on a daily basis. Remember to bring a broom. 6. Reserved Setup space (Grooming) is available for a fee inside the Coliseum. Unreserved Set up space is available on a first-come, first-served basis inside the Coliseum in designated areas as well as outside in the Back Yard in designated areas. There is NO Outdoor Reserved Set up Space. Bring your own shade and observe rules regarding placement and NO STAKING of tents or other equipment. 7. Tents may be set up outside in the “Back Yard”. NO STAKING OF TENTS ALLOWED IN ANY AREA. This is for the saftey of exhibitors and dogs due to electrical and water lines that run under the ground. If stakes are used, they will be removed and destroyed and the responsible party may be subject to disciplinary action. Make sure to bring appropriate weighting devices. No more than three 10 x 10 tents may be ganged together with ten feet between any group of ganged tents. All other tents require approximately 5 feet in between (Fire Dept Rules). 8. Temporary crating of any breed at ringside, whether inside or outside, is allowed only while that breed is being shown. This rule will be strictly enforced. 9. Dog bathing facilities are available (1) outside on pavement at the east end of the Coliseum’s South Hall & (2) outside on pavement at the north end of “The Back Yard” along the fence. These areas will be identified with signage. Do not bathe dogs in the paved areas adjacent to grassed areas or on the grass. Cold water only. 10. Dogs may not be left unattended in exercise pens or on grooming tables. 11. Dogs may be left overnight in the Coliseum. Access to the Coliseum is between 6:00 am & 10:30 pm. The Coliseum will be locked all other times. Security is on site throughout the night. 12. Electricity is not available to unreserved setup spaces. 13. Generators may be used only outside the buildings in designated areas and, per AKC rules, no closer than 50 feet to any ring. 14. Exercise pens may only be placed in designated areas around the Coliseum. Signs will be posted to designate areas. Reminder: Dogs are not to be left unattended in exercise pens or on grooming tables. General Parking 1. Toy, Terrier, Obedience and Rally Exhibitors use North Parking Lot Entrance; Enter at 19th Ave & Monte Vista Rd. All other Exhibitors use South Parking Lot Entrance; Enter at 17th Ave (Coliseum Way) & McDowell Rd. 10
2. Day of Show parking is $8.00 per day (Friday thru Monday), per vehicle. Oversize vehicles (RV’s, Box Vans) pay $16.00 per day. If you need to leave the grounds for any reason, have your parking stub stamped at the gate for re-entry without charge. See Reserved Parking Rules & Reserved Parking Application. A Judge requesting the use of a ramp must give notice to the show superintendent/show secretary prior to judging. The entire entry in a breed is to be examined in the same manner (ground, table, or ramp). Ramps can be used in emergency situation to judge any breed. In an emergency situation an exhibitor has the option of withdrawing their entry and receiving a refund. Judges need not wait for any dog holding up a class. Owners or agents alone are responsible for the presence of their dogs in the judging rings. The Club reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. All trophies must be claimed the day of the show - None will be mailed. All checks issued as prizes are the sole responsibility of the recipient. Lost, stolen and/or misplaced checks will not be replaced. Checks are valid for 90 days. The Superintendent is not able to cash checks. RETURNED CHECKS/DECLINED CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS do not constitute a valid entry fee. Fees must be paid in guaranteed funds. Checks will not be accepted. The Superintendent will add a fee for completing the trans- action and/or reprocessing the entries. Repeated occurrences from the same exhibitors may result in their being put on a CASH ONLY basis. RESERVED OVERNIGHT & RESERVED DAY OF SHOW PARKING • You must be in a reserved parking area to groom from your vehicle. • Reserved parking space is limited. Reservation is required. Power is avail- able at an additional charge. • Deadline for reserved parking is Wednesday, January 15, 2020. • Space requested after the deadline or at the event will be charged an additional $10.00 per day/night for parking. Electrical charges are stated separately on the reservation form. • Payment must accompany reservation. Upon leaving the area in a timely manner your deposit/license will be returned to you. Vehicles left in the unloading zone after one hour are subject to being towed. Any cash deposit will be forfeited. If a driver’s license is left, it will be returned upon payment of a $40.00 fine.
