SAINT AUGUSTINE OF CANTERBURY PARISH KENDALL PARK, NEW JERSEY BISHOP EDWARD T. HUGHES APPOINTED FATHER BOB PASTOR OF SAINT AUGUSTINE OF CANTERBURY PARISH OCTOBER 10, 1995
Dear Father Lynam: In the Rite by which the Church ordains priests, the bishop reminds the candidates and the assembly of the faithful that priests are “co-workers of the bishops, and joined to the bishops in the priestly office, and are called to serve the People of God.”They share in the ministry of the Word, the ministry of the Eucharist, the service of charity, the stewardship of the resources of the Church and the building up of the community of the faithful through the administration of the sacraments. As the principal pastor of this local Church of Metuchen, I rely upon my brother priests to share my concerns and responsibility for the People of God entrusted to me by the successor of Peter. It is preeminently in the appointment of pastors that I share this fatherly concern and pastoral responsibility with the priests who are thus called to a special collaboration with me and to a special relationship with a parish faith-community. After the example of the Good Shepherd, who knows His sheep and whose sheep know Him, who leaves the ninety-nine to go in search of the one who strays, who calls His sheep and they follow, and who finally lays down His life for His sheep, we pastors must seek to be caring, zealous and resolute leaders for our people. With those thought in minds, with confidence in you and relying on the special grace by which God sustains his ministers, I am pleases to appoint you as the pastor of St. Augustine of Canterbury Parish, Kendall Park, New Jersey, effective October 10, 1995 With prayerful best wished, I am Sincerely in Our Lord, Most Reverend Edward T. Hughes Bishop of Metuchen

MASS OF REMEMBRANCE SPECIAL MASS TO REMEMBER THOSE WHO DIED THIS PAST YEAR This year our Parish will celebrate All Souls Day at a 7 PM Mass of Remembrance on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021 and we will remember those who were buried from our Church over the past year. There will be a special meditation after the homily when we lift up in prayer each person who was buried from our Church since last All Souls Day. It is a very moving moment in the Mass and it is our hope and prayer that it becomes a form of healing and comfort for those who have suffered the loss. The families are encouraged to give us a picture of their loved ones so we can place them before the Altar of Sacrifice. Everyone is invited to attend this Mass. I am aware of parishioners who buried a loved one from another Church over the past year, and I would like to extend an invitation to them to participate in this Mass. Please call the Parish Center and speak to Marc. If you would like to supply a picture, please bring it to the Parish Center by Thursday, October 28th, with your name and telephone number on the back of it. All Souls Day is an important day to remember and pray for the dead. Please join us for the 7 PM Mass on Tuesday, November 2nd. PARENTS WHO HAVE SUFFERED THE LOSS OF A CHILD At the special remembrance Mass at 7 PM on Tuesday, November 2nd as we pray for those who were buried over the past year, we will also include a special remembrance for children who have died (no matter what the age) and they need not have been buried from St. Augustine’s. The parents or a member of the family will present a rose for those children who are now with the Lord. If any parent who suffered the loss of a child would like to have their child remembered at this Mass, contact the Parish Center. We pray this special remembrance will bring the parents and their families a sense of peace and comfort.
