Route de France 1972 Riding the epic route of the 1972 Tour de France Peloton We chose the route of the 1972 Tour de France, because we think it’s the best one: it’s a clean loop around France, it visits many of the classic cols, and it’s low on inconvenient transfer miles! En route, we’ll enjoy some fantastic mountain scenery and cycling atmosphere in the Alps and the Pyrenees, visit some of the lesser known climbs in the Cevennes and Vosges, and enjoy some great team riding in the flatlands! We think this is the challenge of the lifetime for cycling enthusiasts – like any great personal achievement, it requires training and determination – but our experience in leading similar multi-week tours in France tells us that it is highly achievable for a range of abilities, and that the challenge, camaraderie and team work is part of the fun! We will provide support and advice in the lead up to the tour, and with our logistical planning and support on the road, we’ll take all the stress out of the ride, so all you need to focus on is enjoying your cycling! Highlights • 3,847km (2,388miles) • Same stages as the 1972 TdF Peloton • 8 mountain stages • Tourmalet, Ventoux, Galibier, Izoard • Average riding day of 120 miles • 2 rest days, total 150 transfer miles • 1, 2, 3 week options available • Comfortable hotels and good food • Fully supported and guided 1 Velocene Adventures Ltd. Notes • The above trip notes will be subject to revision as the project evolves – we will try to include more within in the price if we can, but our ability to do so is subject to the numbers; • There are certain scenarios where we reserve the right to increase the trip price, particularly if the group size is at or less than the minimum required – but we will do everything in our power to avoid this, and will always do so only in clear consultation with all our riders; • Currently, booking is subject to Velocene’s standard terms and conditions, here, but in due course we will develop bespoke terms for this trip, to ensure that your booking is secure; • Route/Itinerary changes – we also reserve the right to make changes to the itinerary. Our goal is to respect, as closely as possible, the route taken by the 1972 Tour de France. Where deviations are required, we will try to ensure a comparable route profile and daily mileage. One notable change at this stage is likely to be the Angers start, where we may consider a start point closer to Saint Malo, and offering more attractive cycling in Brittany. 3 Velocene Adventures Ltd.
