ROLE SPECIFICATION CATERING ASSISTANT (during school terms) Context - our school Morrison’s Academy is a friendly, family-oriented independent day school in the heart of Perthshire. Context - our campus The School’s main campus is located in the centre of Crieff and comprises a mixture of historic (our magnificent original buildings dating from 1860) and modern buildings. Our cutting-edge Nursery, recently renovated library and upgraded science labs and new on-site café setting the new standard for excellence. We also have an off-site outdoor sports campus with all-weather pitch allowing for year-round matches and training. Morrison’s Academy is committed to ongoing development and modernisation. Place of Work The post-holder will be employed to work in the Coffee Lab or the Refectory, however, they will be contracted to work in any catering venue that forms the School campus as required. Leave Entitlement The post-holder will be entitled to all normal school holidays as published in the School calendar. Hours of Work Various hours are available. Salary Scale Salary will be linked to the Morrison’s Academy Salary Scale and will be appropriate to the skills and experience of the post-holder. Uniforms are provided. Meals will be provided whilst on duty. Staff discount for any employee’s children attending Morrison’s Academy. Pension.
Overview: To assist the Catering Team in the running of the ‘Coffee Lab’; our onsite takeaway for our Senior Pupils and Staff, providing pre-prepared snacks and lunches to pupils or to assist the Catering Team in our Refectory. Duties could include the preparation, service and sale of hot and cold food, snacks, salads and home baking, the operating of a till and serving the pupils or general kitchen duties, depending on the role undertaken. Other duties may include occasional functions and school events. This is a hands-on role within a small team and includes all aspects of running a busy kitchen. Examples of some of the tasks you could be asked to assist in are listed below but again, these would depend on the role and if you do not have experience in any of the items below, training will be given where required: ● Be involved in basic food preparation of hot and cold items and home baking. ● Process and making up pre-ordered items. ● Carry out the sale and service of takeaway lunch items and hot and cold drinks. ● Operate the till. ● Have an awareness of allergens and dietary restrictions. ● Develop a thorough knowledge of menu items and recipes to ensure consistency. ● Have an awareness of stock levels of all items and ordering as required in conjunction with the Catering Supervisor. ● Have an awareness of expiry dates and stock rotation. ● Label, date and store prepared food. ● Ensure all standards of good and personal hygiene are adhered to at all times. ● Comply with all school and legislative requirements. ● Be responsible for the cleanliness of the kitchen including preparation areas and dish wash areas. ● Report faulty equipment and maintenance issues. ● Be aware of and follow emergency procedures. ● Attend events and assist the Catering Supervisor and/or Catering Manager in the running of any catering event for the School over and above normal service. ● Maintain close written and verbal communication with the Catering Supervisor and Catering Manager at all times to the benefit of the School’s catering operations. ● Be responsible for the opening and/or close down procedures of the Coffee Lab, if required, and any other venue that forms the School campus if seconded, each day and prepare for the following morning opening. ● Comply with the individual responsibilities imposed by the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (1999) and to cooperate with Management to promote a positive attitude towards Health & Safety at Work taking all reasonably practicable steps to prevent personal injury or injury to others. This role specification is intended to convey a broad outline of the position and responsibilities of the Catering Assistant. It is not definitive and will be mutually reviewed on an annual basis as a normal aspect of the personal review and development process. October 2021
