EARTH HOUR PROMISE FOR THE PLANET POSTER COMPETITION EARTH HOUR 2019: 30 At 8.30pm on Saturday 30 March 2019 hundreds of millions of people MARCH 8:30PM across the world will be turning out their lights and coming together to celebrate Earth Hour. It’s a time to show we care about our world and a symbolic reminder that the future of our planet hangs in the balance. We’re asking everyone who takes part in Earth Hour to make an individual promise for the planet. There are so many simple things that pupils can do such as refusing plastic cutlery in their school canteen, cycling or walking to school, or even growing fruit and vegetables in their school grounds. COMPETITION ASK: We would like your pupils to design a poster showcasing their very own individual promise for the planet. The winning posters will be displayed on Edinburgh City Centre bus shelters and digital screens on selected Lothian buses from 1st March up to Earth Hour 2019. We'll be looking for designs that will inspire the people of Edinburgh to make their own promise for the planet. One winner from each category will win the following: Their poster displayed on Edinburgh City Centre bus shelters and digital screens on selected Lothian buses from 1st March up to Earth Hour 2019. One WWF species adoption of their choice for their classroom to run for one year. COMPETITION DATES: The competition runs from 8 January to 5pm Friday, 1 February 2019.
WHO CAN APPLY? The competition is open to pupils who are Edinburgh residents, attending an Edinburgh school on the closing date of the competition – Friday 1 February 2019. To enter, pupils will need to produce a print or digital poster (A4 or A3, landscape or portrait) sharing their promise for the planet. There are five age categories based on the curriculum levels and there will be one winner from each age category. Please use the Earth Hour Promise for the Planet poster competition entry form below and ensure a copy of the entry form accompanies all entries to the competition. THE TASK: Pupils are invited to design a poster to show their promise for the planet across one of four themes: Fight against plastic pollution Fight for our wildlife Fight to tackle climate change Fight to fix our food system Posters will be judged on creativity and clarity of message. TOP TIPS: Use bold lines and big fonts Don’t use high-visibility colours (like hi-viz yellow); as these posters are road-side we can’t distract drivers too much! Fill the paper with your design POSTER SPECIFICATIONS: Posters must be Either A3 or A4 in size Portrait or landscape orientation Produced by one pupil only Static – no moving images For display reasons, posters should be finished with bold lines as designs with thin, faint, or small details may not enlarge and reproduce well to the size of the final posters. Posters must be accompanied by the competition entry form. HOW TO ENTER: Please send pupils’ entries to: Earth Hour Poster Competition, Lisa Talbot, WWF Scotland, The TUN, 4 Jackson’s Entry, Holyrood Road, Edinburgh, EH8 8PJ.
