Compete in the 20th annual Territorial Skills Competition in Yellowknife on April 27-28, 2018. The Territorial Skills Competitions is open to students in grades 9-12 for the secondary level competitions, and to registered apprentices or other post-secondary students pursuing a career in their chosen skill area. The philosophy behind the TSC is to: ● Reward students for excellence; ● Raise awareness of the importance and value of skilled trades and technology careers; ● Directly involve industry in evaluating student performance; and keep training relevant to employers’ needs. As a competitor, you will have the opportunity to: ● Challenge yourself; ● Meet other young northerners who are interested in the same trade/technology as you; ● Learn what skills might be expected by industry in the trade or technology that interests you; ● Talk to industry experts who could become valuable future contacts; ● Show the value of careers in skilled trades and technology; and ● Win a medal and a possible spot on Team NWT at the Skills Canada National Competition. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE AND COSTS? Each competitor must pay a $50 registration fee, or $25 prior to the early bird deadline. This fee is refundable up to 7 days before the event, after which time it is non-refundable. If the fee is a barrier to participation for an individual, please contact Skills Canada NWT to discuss options. Included in your registration fee is out of city travel expenses, accommodation and meals. Students are eligible to compete in Secondary level contests if they: ● Are less than 22 years old on December 31st of the year of the competition; ● Are a resident of the NWT or are currently attending school in the NWT; ● Attend a secondary-level school at any time between July 1st of the year of the last TSC, and the date of start of TSC for which the competitor is registered; 2

Where regional competitions are offered, the regional competitions are qualifying events for secondary students who wish to compete in the Territorial Skills Competition. Where a Regional Competition is not offered and several students from the same school/region wish to compete in the same contest, in-school or local competitions may be used to determine the most skilled candidates for the TSC. Due to limited space in each contest area, Skills Canada NWT reserves the right to limit participation. Contact Skills Canada NWT for more information about contest spaces and regional representation. Registration is first come, first served for Post-Secondary competitors. The 2018 TSC will be held on Friday April 27th and Saturday April 28th. It is a 2-day competition. Participants and their coaches/advisors will be away from work/school for at least two full days and, in some cases, may require extra time for travel and overnight accommodations.
