Spectra Secondary School was established in 2013 as a Specialised School for Normal Technical students. We prepare our students for further studies in the ITE through our customised academic and vocational curriculum. We focus on three broad areas: 1. Nurturing students’ sense of self-worth, self-confidence and motivation so that they lead purposeful and happy lives. 2. Enhancing students’ literacy, numeracy and digital skills so that they experience success in school, work and life. 3. Stimulating students’ interests and career aspirations through a blended curriculum (academic and vocational) that deepens their knowledge, skills and attitude.
4 5 Together We Can S pectacular Retail and e-Commerce S tudents learn how to perform retail selling including online and omni-channel retailing, produce promotional collaterals and brochures, handle logistics in inventory control, and display merchandise. Culinary and Restaurant Operations S tudents learn how to prepare restaurant-standard meals and cafe-standard coffee beverages, provide food and beverage service, and organise themed events.
6 7 Together We Can S pectacular Internet of Things Applications Students learn how to produce basic IoT prototypes and deploy simple software applications in an authentic industrial and commercial system. Mechanical Design and Automation Students learn how to design simple 3D products, create 3D models using CAD, produce prototypes using a 3D printer, perform mechanical fitting and assembly, and assemble parts and components to complete an automated unit. Mobile Web Applications Students learn how to develop rich user interface and responsive mobile web applications for common mobile devices.
8 9 Together We Can S pectacular Unique Programmes and Learning Support S pectra offers specialised programmes, opportunities and platforms that are unique, engaging and cater to the diverse interests and abilities of our students. Key Programmes Secondary 1 Garden-based Service Learning (GBSL) is part of the Secondary 1 curriculum where students learn about values such as resilience and diligence through hands-on work in the garden as they plant and harvest crops in the school’s roof- top garden. Elements of English, Mathematics and Science are inter-woven into the lessons and students engage the community by running a Farmers’ Market after each harvest.
10 11 Together We Can Spectacular Secondary 2 Equine-assisted Learning (EQUAL) is part of the Secondary 2 curriculum where all students work and interact with horses as part of a programme to develop their social and emotional competencies. Students learn about empathy, effective communication, peer dynamics and teamwork through the programme. Secondary 3 The Industry Experiential Programme (IEP) is an essential part of the Secondary 3 vocational education curriculum where students are given work experience opportunities with various Industry Partners. Students can hone their skills in an authentic working environment and the practical application of what they have learnt in school.
