Progress of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Madhya Pradesh State Planning Commission, Government of Madhya Pradesh Date - 13 Feb 2018
Agenda I - Status of Vision / Roadmap /Strategy v After extensive research and studies, the State Panning Commission identified ‘23 Themes’ in 2013 itself. v The Government of Madhya Pradesh had developed ‘Vision 2018’ document in a consultative process with all the departments of the government and other stake holders. v Currently the polices, schemes, programs, etc. are primarily guided by the Vision 2018 document. v Regular review by the Chief Minister is done on the parameters defined in the document. v Hence, it is much easier for the state to align the planning and implementation of 17 Goals of SDGs. 2
Strengthening of State Planning Commission The State Panning Commission (SPC) is the ‘Nodal Point’ for SDGs rollout SPC has been participating at all National, Regional and International conferences on SDGs The SPC has been re-organised to align with NITI Aayog of GoI and SDGs of United Nations For ‘Vision 2030’ 09 Task force (s) have been created Project Management SDGs Roll Out M&E and Policy Support 3
Role of Task Force v To lead the process of preparing ‘Vision Document 2030’ for the Vision Document State, to be validated at a multi-stakeholder conclave. 2030/32 v The Task Force(s) are key in building a roadmap for SDG implementation Roadmap v The Task Force(s) would provide practical and workable solutions for effective and efficient rollout of the SDG Solution to Rollout SDG v To prepare Vision 2030 document and their action plan for SDGs, the Task Forces are examining and pritorizing sectoral aspects Examine and Prioritize 4
Agenda II - Dedicated Unit / Cell for Coordination v Dedicated SDG Cell has been constituted in State Planning Commission v Policy Planning and SDG Monitoring Cell within each department has been created v UNDP State Office is Working in collaboration with State Planning Commission Output / Policy Technical Data Outcome Interventions Support Management Framework SDG Impact Coordination Monitoring Assessment 6
Agenda III - Data Management v State Planning Commission is jointly working with Directorate of Economics and Statistics to develop data gathering mechanism for Monitoring and Evaluation of SDG Implementation. v A workshop has been conducted with Field level officials in this regard. v Dedicated Cell in State Planning Commission will work for following : o Establishment of various baseline information of various thematic areas and key Indicators (310). o Collecting, Validating and analysing data on progress of SDGs in State. o Development of Monitoring and Evaluation Framework for SDG o Updating the progress of SDG to State government, GoI and other authorities 7
Agenda IV - Capacity Building on SDG(s) Sensitization of Departments v SPC has initiated extensive process of sensitization of all the departments of the government. v State Level Training Programme on Integrating SDGs in the Decentralized Integrated Planning for Planning Officers/ Block Level Officers/ District Officials of Jan Abhiyan Parishad, GoMP through IIFM Bhopal v 51 District Level Workshops have been planned to be conducted this year. 8
Agenda V - Partnership with Institutions v The Chief Minister and the UN Resident Coordinator discussed the scope of collaboration further in development of State v SPC has initiated the process of consultation with various UN organizations in state. v A collective meeting with all UN bodies in MP has been done 9
Agenda VI - Localizing of SDG v Line departments both at state level and district level are continuously sensitized on the issue v Jan Abhiyan Parishad (a government sponsored NGO) has done ToT for its work force which in turn has undertaken sensitization of the 23000 Panchayats in Madhya Pradesh v SPC shared concept note on SDGs for action at the district level and for further roll-out v A workshop has been conducted with Field level officials 10
Agenda VII - Innovative Steps Taken v The following innovative steps have been taken. v Policy , Planning and SDG Monitoring cells are established within line departments. v 9 working groups have been constituted involving all the 54 departments of the government to write chapter on each of 17 SDG goals. v Mapping of schemes of the GoMP has been done against in each goal. v Output / Outcome Framework budget has component of SDG 11
Agenda VII - Innovative Steps Taken v The following innovative steps have been taken. v Effort has also been made to chart out the important schemes with the various departments under each goal. This clearly bring out the Convergence amongst various departments and schemes for each SDG goals v A degree course By Chitrakoot Gramodaya University ( Satna District , MP) has module on SDG. v SDG Booklet in Hindi with State Government Logo. v Mapping of Indicators 12

Mapping of Schemes of GoMP with SDGs • There are approximately1500 schemes being implemented in Madhya Pradesh. • Schemes (319) with budget of Rs. 50 crore and above were taken up for mapping. Partnership with Institutions v SPC has initiated the process of consultation with various UN organizations in state. v A collective meeting with all UN bodies in MP of – UNICEF, UNDP, WHO and UNWOMEN, ILO has been done. v Discussions on SDG roll out have been held so far with UNICEF and UNDP. Meeting was also held between UNICEF, SPC and UNDP on 28th October 2016 to address their issues on:- (1) Establishment of various baseline information of various thematic areas. (2) Development of M&E framework. v As per requirement support will be sought from the office of UNRC New Delhi for technical support on the matter of roll out of SDGs in Madhya Pradesh. v A workshop was held by EPCO, UNDP and GoMP on 4th of November 2016 which enhanced the capacities of stakeholders in understanding the SDGs and opportunities in 21 convergence of SDG-climate change concerns with ongoing development activities.
