Message from Mr Dolphin, Senior Vice Principal
Thanks to all parents who have been supportive of the changes that we have made to the running of the
school day.

If your child intends on using the MUGA at lunch time, please be aware that they must bring their
trainers into school in their bag and they must wear their school shoes as normal. Students will not be
permitted onto the MUGA to use it at lunch time if they do not have both pairs of shoes on them. They
must also not take any food or drink onto the MUGA to protect the surface and minimise litter.

Regards,
Mr L Dolphin

PCR and LFD testing during Ramadan
The British Islamic Medical Association’s view is that taking polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or lateral
flow device (LFD) tests during Ramadan does not invalidate the fast.
Parent Bulletin - The Portsmouth Academy
People may feel more comfortable doing the tests when they are not fasting. In this case, the home
tests can be carried out at any time.

Heads of Year

                                        Year 7 – Mr Davies

We are now doing assemblies every Thursday as a year team. We will alternate who leads assemblies
between myself and SLT. This week we have been discussing ‘being our best self’. We will be reinforcing
this message at every opportunity in school. We will be asking students how they are being their best self
and to give us examples of when they have got this right.
PSHE Theme: Changing adolescent body and mind
Competitions: Tutor attendance, uniform attack

                                      Year 8 – Mr M Smith

Students will now have a weekly assembly, on a Tuesday for Year 8, with a member of the Senior
Leadership Team in Week A and myself in Week B. This week, we have looked at the theme of ‘being your
best self’. It would be helpful if you could please reinforce this message at home. Many thanks.

PSHE Theme: Mental Health

                                       Year 9 – Mr Parnell
Students are now having weekly assemblies in the Main Hall on a Monday morning. Topics will vary and
respond to key themes as they emerge. The most recent focus was on ‘being your best self’. Please can
you take some time to discuss what this looks like with your child.
PSHE Theme: Sex and the Law

                                        Year 10 –Miss Hart
The Year 10s have had a fantastic start to their mocks this week and I have been extremely impressed and
proud with how they have approached them. If students are unsure about where to access revision
materials, GCSEPod is a fantastic way to help support students with their revision.

We still have a number of students in incorrect uniform. Please can I ask that you check your child is in full
uniform before they leave for school. Students are not permitted to wear trainers, Lycra skirts or any
hoodies. Also, no nail extensions are allowed in school; students will be asked to have them removed.
PSHE Theme: Sex and Relationships.
