The Portsmouth Academy Week 29A w/c 3 May 2021 Parent Bulletin Important Dates 3rd May – Early Bank Holiday Postponed Inset Day - New Date The INSET day which was postponed from 22nd February 2021 will now be held on Monday 7th June. Message from Mr Dolphin, Senior Vice Principal Thanks to all parents who have been supportive of the changes that we have made to the running of the school day. If your child intends on using the MUGA at lunch time, please be aware that they must bring their trainers into school in their bag and they must wear their school shoes as normal. Students will not be permitted onto the MUGA to use it at lunch time if they do not have both pairs of shoes on them. They must also not take any food or drink onto the MUGA to protect the surface and minimise litter. Regards, Mr L Dolphin

People may feel more comfortable doing the tests when they are not fasting. In this case, the home tests can be carried out at any time. Have you got the correct uniform? Payments The Portsmouth Academy operates a cashless payment system. However, we do not have a debit/credit card machine available at the school to accept card payments. We ask that students do not bring any debit/credit cards to school for payment purposes. All payments for school dinners and other items must be made through PlusPay. Heads of Year Year 7 – Mr Davies We are now doing assemblies every Thursday as a year team. We will alternate who leads assemblies between myself and SLT. This week we have been discussing ‘being our best self’. We will be reinforcing this message at every opportunity in school. We will be asking students how they are being their best self and to give us examples of when they have got this right. PSHE Theme: Changing adolescent body and mind Competitions: Tutor attendance, uniform attack Year 8 – Mr M Smith Students will now have a weekly assembly, on a Tuesday for Year 8, with a member of the Senior Leadership Team in Week A and myself in Week B. This week, we have looked at the theme of ‘being your best self’. It would be helpful if you could please reinforce this message at home. Many thanks. PSHE Theme: Mental Health Year 9 – Mr Parnell Students are now having weekly assemblies in the Main Hall on a Monday morning. Topics will vary and respond to key themes as they emerge. The most recent focus was on ‘being your best self’. Please can you take some time to discuss what this looks like with your child. PSHE Theme: Sex and the Law Year 10 –Miss Hart The Year 10s have had a fantastic start to their mocks this week and I have been extremely impressed and proud with how they have approached them. If students are unsure about where to access revision materials, GCSEPod is a fantastic way to help support students with their revision. We still have a number of students in incorrect uniform. Please can I ask that you check your child is in full uniform before they leave for school. Students are not permitted to wear trainers, Lycra skirts or any hoodies. Also, no nail extensions are allowed in school; students will be asked to have them removed. PSHE Theme: Sex and Relationships.
Year 11 – Miss Piper We are now in a position to inform you about the end of school timeline for your child and a letter with all the relevant information on will be emailed to you at the beginning of next week. I am very excited to inform you that we will be able to have a year 11 prom this year. We have been able to secure the venue we had previously booked last year. A letter with the full details will be emailed to you early next week. Date: Friday 2nd July Time: 6pm – 11pm Venue: The Village Hotel Tickets are £32 per head including a 3 course sit down dinner, red carpet, DJ, table decorations and hire of the room.
