Buchanan Weekly Update 5/28/21 Greetings, As the month of May winds down, I encourage you to take time to relax and enjoy this Memorial Day Weekend. We have done a great job this year and look forward to the bright future that Buchanan Elementary School has. 5th Grade Recognition Ceremony When Tuesday, June 8th, 10:30am-12pm Where 340 South West End Avenue Lancaster, PA More information Graduation will be held outside in the student playground under the tent. Each student is allowed to bring two parents. iPad Return On the following dates we will be collecting student iPads: Wednesday, June 2, 2021 - Grades: K5/1st Thursday, June 3, 2021 - Grades: 2nd/3rd Friday, June 4, 2021 - Grades: 4th/5th Please ensure that you send your students with their iPads to school. DISTRICT UPDATE SDoL Celebrates 2020-21 Retirees This week SDoL recognized this year’s retirees by honoring them at a dinner reception. Collectively, the 38 retirees have served the district for over 916 years. Best wishes to this distinguished group of educators, support staff members, and administrators as they embark on their well-deserved retirement. GUIDANCE w/ GLICK Power Pack Update
Power Packs Project final distribution for 2020-21 school year is Wednesday, May 26th, 2021. Children need nutritious meals all year long and that is why Power Packs Project is offering weekend food, recipes, and nutrition tips during the summer months starting Wednesdays June 23rd - August 11, 2021. We are centralizing all Summer Program enrollments to be managed from Power Packs Headquarters(HQ) therefore, participants will enroll online using QR Code Link (see attached program flyer). Important Summer Program notes: * Power Packs Summer Enrollment Flyers are attached for copying and distributing throughout your school community. We also recommend posting in school social networks (School Web site, Class Dojo, Instagram, Facebook). Paperless online enrollment using QR code or link is available now for immediate enrollment. * All currently enrolled participants must re-enroll to participate in summer program. * Schools that are not distribution sites, families may contact Power Packs (717)615-3784 to schedule an appointment for pick up at Power Packs Main office 1915 Olde Homestead Lane address. * Participant must apply before June 16th to receive a pack on June 23rd. * Participant who fails to pick up packs after 2 distributions will be notified by Power Pack that they have been terminated from the program. The Mental Wellness Benefits Of Practicing Gratitude As May & Mental Health Awareness Month wind down, it’s important to not leave mental wellness behind. We want to find ways to continue to increase our mental health and gratitude is a great place to start! ARTICLE PTO UPDATE Upcoming Elections Are you interested in becoming more involved with the Buchanan PTO? While we are always looking for volunteers to help with school events, we also need parents and caregivers to fill important leadership roles within the PTO. We will be accepting nominations (including self-nominations) at our June meeting for the following positions: PTO President Serves as the primary liaison between PTO and BE Principal; oversees and helps coordinate Committee activities; runs monthly meetings and creates agendas (with Principal and PTO Secretary); represents BE at PTO and District events PTO Vice President Assists the President with coordinating Committee activities; helps run monthly meetings (with President); represents BE at PTO and District events PTO Past President (this position will become active in 2022-23) Assists the President and Vice President by providing continuity and perspectives on previous PTO activities and/or school events PTO Treasurer Maintains financial records for PTO; reports monthly on expenses and income; prepares annual budget for approval by PTO members; works with Committee chairs on events (fundraising and/or vendor payments) PTO Secretary
Prepares monthly agenda (with President); records minutes for all meetings; maintains social media accounts in collaboration with BE staff; works with Committee chairs to advertise events PAC/PTO Representative Represents BE at monthly SDoL PAC meetings and reports back to PTO; represents parents on School Improvement Committee (with Principal) Volunteer Coordinator Maintains volunteer email list and Buchanan Volunteers gmail account; works with Committee chairs to recruit volunteers for events; assists BE staff with obtaining clearances for new volunteers At the June meeting we will also establish Committees for next year's events (such as Kindergarten Orientation, Bingo Night, Family Dance, Race for Education). Volunteering to run an event is a great way to get involved with the PTO! Everyone is welcome!
