Rewards Policy October 2016
Celebrating success and rewarding good work should be a daily occurrence at the Academy with
teachers encouraged to use praise liberally in their teaching and to monitor performance regularly
through marking and the Report System. Half termly assemblies will also be used to discuss student
achievement, success and recognise groups and individuals that are worthy of praise.

Lesson Monitor
Students Behaviour for Learning is monitored during every lesson using the SIMS registration system.
All students are graded as a 2 when they enter the classroom and are then graded against the
following criteria at the end of each lesson:

    1. Outstanding (students exceed expectations)

    2. Good (students meet the expectations of the lesson)

    3. Requires improvement (poor behaviour, lack of equipment/homework/classwork, late)

    4. Cause for concern (removed from the lesson)

At the end of each week the top 5 students in each year group are rewarded with a restaurant
voucher and prize draw ticket.
One ticket is drawn at the end of each half term and the winner receives an Amazon voucher for the
value of £20.

All students that receive 100% grade 1s and 2s throughout a half term receive recognition through
celebration assemblies and certificates. They also attended a rewards breakfast during the first week
of the new half term.

Students who have top number of grade 1s are sent a letter of commendation to parents at the end
of each half term and also are invited to attend a rewards lunch with the principal.

Academy Colours

Students will now be rewarded for demonstrating continued commitment to extra-curricular
activities through Academy Colours. Each extra-curricular activity is assigned to a category (see
below):
 Academic - Science Club, Homework Club, Newsletter Team

 Community - Student Voice, Duke of Edinburgh, Games Club, Anti-Bullying Alliance

 The Arts - Drama Club, Street Dance, Dance Club, Music Club

 Sports – Netball, Basketball, Football, Badminton, Fitness

Students who are committed to an extracurricular club across Year 7 & 8 will achieve academy half
colours and will be rewarded with a silver badge for the correct category.
If students continue to be committed to an extracurricular club across Year 9 & 10 they will achieve
academy full colours and will be rewarded with a gold badge for the correct category.

Rewards Policy October 2016
Students that demonstrate commitment to a number of extracurricular clubs that fall in 3 different
categories they will achieve:

- Half colours – Year 7 & 8 – Silver Tie

- Full colours – Year 9 & 10 – Gold Tie

Vivos

Students are rewarded using the online vivo system and teachers allocate them in the following
categories:

- Excellence – 5 or 10 vivos

These should be awarded for EXCELLENCE in homework, classwork, participation in lessons,
working with others, participation in extra-curricular activities. Staff should try and ensure that these
are spread evenly amongst classes and that students are only given excellence awards for
exceptional achievement, relative to the student’s ability.

- Respect – 5 or 10 vivos

These should be awarded for demonstrating an outstanding level of RESPECT to other students and
staff throughout the academy. Staff should try and ensure that these are spread evenly amongst
classes and that students are only given respect awards for displaying an exceptional level of respect
of staff or peers.

- Friendship – 5 or 10 vivos

These awards should only be issued to students who are spotted ‘doing the right thing’, perhaps a
‘random act of kindness’, supporting other students, being helpful without being asked, any act which
indicates that they are a positive role model to others in the school.

Staff are provided with the following allocations of vivos on a weekly basis:

 - Teaching staff – 250

 - Support staff – 120

1 vivo is equivalent to 1p and students can redeem these points against a number of items on the
online vivo shop or the academy’s vivo shop.

Vivo shop is open on 3 mornings weekly for students to purchase essential items, e.g. planner, tie,
stationery.

Student ambassadors pack and distribute orders made via the vivo website during personal tutor
time.

Additional Awards
100% Attendance all week
Any student who achieves 100% attendance for the week will automatically be awarded 5 Vivos.
Tutors do not have to issue this award.

100% Attendance for a half term
Any student who achieves 100% attendance for the half term will automatically be awarded 50 Vivos.

Postcards Home
On occasions, students do things at the Academy that the teachers want to be able to share with the
parents formally. For example they might have been extremely helpful in a session by helping others
in the class or displayed strong citizenship in their approach to work or school life. Subject teachers,
Personal Tutors or Heads of Year can recognise this type of achievement by issuing a post card
which is sent home on the same day.
Each area of experience has personalised post cards that can be completed, signed and then passed
through to the administration team and posted home direct to students.
Subject teachers should also award the student Vivos linked to the achievement so that it can be
shared with the personal tutor and there is a record kept.

Achievement Award Presentation
The Academy holds two annual Achievement Award Presentations at which student achievement is
recognised and celebrated.
The Achievement Award Presentations are special dates in the Academy calendar and involve
attendance by Governors, staff, parents and students.
The Achievement Award Presentations are spectacular events with video footage of students’
achievements and live performances on the stage.

Students are nominated for subject awards and special awards by the teaching staff at the Academy
and the final decisions are made by the Head in consultation with the Senior Leadership Team.
