The Len & Judy Elikan 2021 Camp Scholarship Application
Greetings! The Jewish Federation & Foundation of Northeast Florida and The Len & Judy Elikan Camp Scholarship Fund are thrilled to once again offer overnight camp scholarship awards this year for teens who are seen as potential leaders of the next generation in the Jewish Community. A Jewish overnight camp is a place to learn new skills, to have fun, and to meet new friends with whom you share your ideas about Judaism and life. Jewish camp is a place where many become proud and committed Jews, though they may not have had that goal in mind when deciding to go. Many go on to become leaders in their community – a great byproduct. However, the first objective is the most important one: for each youth who attends to have a great summer experience in a Jewish environment. Teens who have completed the 9th grade by June 30, 2021 and whose families are members of a local congregation, are encouraged to apply for awards based in part on financial need. Please act quickly – funds are limited. The deadline for submitting an application is February 28, 2021 at 11:59 PM. Please provide this information to appropriate candidates. If you have questions, please contact Kellie Smith, Director of the Jewish Foundation (KellieK@jewishjacksonville.org or 904-512-3796). Who is Eligible to Apply? The scholarship is for Jewish teens that have completed 9th grade as of June 30, 2021. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) must be current members of one of the following: • Congregation Ahavath Chesed - Jacksonville, FL. • Etz Chaim Synagogue - Jacksonville, FL. • Jacksonville Jewish Center - Jacksonville, FL. • Beth El - the Beaches Synagogue - Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. • Chabad at the Beaches - Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. • First Congregation Sons of Israel - St. Augustine, FL. • Temple Bet Yam – St. Augustine, FL. • Congregation Beth Shalom – Bozeman, MT. Scholarship Amounts The maximum scholarship for 2021 is 70% of the total cost of camp (up to $3,000). Candidates selected to receive a scholarship who choose not to disclose financial information in their application will be awarded $1,000. The scholarship recipients will be selected by March 31, 2021 and notified of the amount awarded. Funds will be sent directly to the camp once the scholarship committee has confirmed the camper’s acceptance into the camp and session. Confidential Application Process 1.
