Term 3 BPSSC Sport update With Term 2 coming to an end and restrictions starting to ease, we are excited to inform the Bellbird Park community of our plans for sport in term 3. School Carnivals: Athletics and Cross-Country were scheduled to go ahead this term, unfortunately these were unable to go ahead due to social distancing. We are excited to now announce that students will be able to participate in an Athletics competition and a Cross-Country/Colour run that will take place on the 16th and 18th of September (Wednesday and Friday of week 10). Wednesday AM – Field Events Only -Students will have the opportunity to participate in field events they have previously nominated for. Students who choose to not nominate will attend normal classes. Please note if students wish to compete in High Jump using the Fosbury Flop technique, they must collect a separate note from Miss Manson (H block) to be signed by their coach and presented on the day of competition. Wednesday PM- All students- All students will be expected to participate in the Cross Country event. For the first time this year we will be incorporating a ‘Colour Run’ aspect in to the Cross Country competition where students will run through coloured ‘chalk’. Information regarding the ingredients and safety related to the colour is attached at the back of the permission note. Friday- ALL DAY – Athletics Carnival - All students will be out of class and participating in the track events they have nominated in or supporting their house and their peers from the viewing on the hill. Students who wish to participate in the Athletics Carnival will need to nominate for specific events during a lunch time prior to September 1st. A permission note will be given to students to take home early term 3 providing you with more information. Yagera: Gala days were scheduled to take place in term 3 week 3 but have been postponed to later in the term. Winter season sports trials will be held on Tuesday 21st of July 2020. Students must return their permission form prior to attending the trial. Upon completion of trials, successful students will be invited to represent the College to compete in the Yagera Interschool Sports competition, now known as a ‘Gala Day’ on Thursday the 17th of September. There is one exception, Year 9 & 10 Soccer will be on Tuesday the 25th of August. This one day competition has combined age divisions for each sport. Students selected in BPSSC teams are expected to attend weekly training sessions on Thursday afternoons 3-4PM and play in competition games which take place during week 7 or 10, depending on their sport. Further information
about Gala Days and transport will be communicated following team selection. Please note there may be a $20 fee to cover transport to and from the Gala Day event. It is not too late for your student to sign up, they will need to see Mr Mulheron to get a permission slip to attend after school training sessions. There have been no confirmed dates for the recommencement of the Bronco’s Cup season at this stage, you will be updated as this information becomes available. MetWest: The long anticipated return to the representative school sport program has arrived. The department will recommence a staged reintroduction of school sport from Term 3, 2020. From 10 July 2020, in line with the Queensland Government’s Stage 3 easing of restrictions, the representative school sport program for both outdoor and indoor sports can begin. Selected state championships, regional trials and district trials will take place in term 3 and term 4 2020. Parents who require further information can contact sport@bellbirdparkssc.eq.edu.au or contact the college on 3819 7222 ADP Program Update Students will be presented with their jerseys on Monday 20th July during their lesson (week 2). There will also be a small morning tea provided for these students afterwards. Currently COVID 19 prevents us from having large gatherings so we are restricted at this stage to just students and no parents/caregivers. Photos will be posted on the school Facebook page. Term 3 for the Athlete Development Program also involves Rugby League with Mr Mulheron. Students will need a mouthguard and students have been informed but please ensure your student has a mouthguard. Education Queensland Curriculum Activity Risk Assessment guidelines state that “Students must wear a mouthguard when participating in rugby league. The department strongly recommends that students wear custom-fitted mouthguards. Schools are required to provide information about the different types of mouthguards to parents/carers to assist them make an informed choice for the student, for example, see the Sport Medicine Australia—dental injuries (PDF, 306KB) http://sma.org.au/sma-site-content/uploads/2018/04/MouthGuard.pdf and the Australian Dental Association recommendations https://www.ada.org.au/Your-Dental-Health/Teens-12- 17/Mouthguards . ADP Trials Trials for the 2021 program are mandatory for all current ADP Year 7 students and students whom wish to join for next year.
