Message from the Exalted Ruler, Renay Bennett Greetings My Fellow Elks, I read this post on Katy Elks Lodge page, which was written by their member Neil Patrick Hines. It is so beautifully written that I wanted to share it with you all. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Tides By Neil Hines, Public Relations Katy Elks Lodge 2628 “A rising tide lifts all boats.” – The Gallant Maid, Wen Kang Our lodge and its membership are like a rising tide that is lifting all those members that are just becoming aware of our renewed spirit. The mantle of Covid has been lifted as has the old Elk year ended. But these are not the only reasons for this renewed tide of rejuvenation. As in nature the tides rise and fall because of an outside force. Tides are not self-moving or aware of the fact that they are being moved. Tides are reactive to other forces exerted upon them. We are like those tides. But what moved us? Yes, the new Elk year gave us a benchmark for change. It is like the New Year pledges of betterment. The resolutions to do better, be better, improving what we did not like before; a do-over so to speak. And given this opportunity a lot of our membership saw it and grasped that prospect and ran with it. It seems like every meeting since the new year we are swearing in new members with more in the pipeline. This is not only exciting but validates our organization and lodge as worthwhile in an age where volunteer fraternal organizations are questioned. And these new members are excited which is stirring up more excitement in other members that are recovering from the last year of social dis- tancing and can once again interact. Excited people get others excited. Our events are being well attended as are our fund-raising efforts. Our event planners are hitting the high marks for fun filled activities that never disappoint. I see the smiles on members as they participate in these events, and it makes me want to participate not want- ing to be one left on the sidelines. With new ideas being created every day. There is now a tsunami of summer fun as the weather warms and the sun comes out shining. There is so much excitement being generated by the different events. May was filled with so many fun activities. We had a Derby Watch Party, Cinco de Mayo Celebration, Crawfish Boil and Mother’s Day Celebration all in one weekend. We attended the Gulf Coast District Picnic at El Campo, and let us not forget the Memorial Day Barbeque or Jack and Earline’s 50th Anniversary Celebration. All of these events had great participation of old members, new mem- bers, potential members, friends and families. All of these events could not happen without “you” the members of the greatest organi- zation on earth, The Benevolent and Protected Order of Elks of Houston Lodge #151. We start this month off with the State Convention, which will be held in Addison. This convention is not just for officers to attend. All members are welcome to attend. It’s an opportunity to learn about the new things going on in Elkdom as well as make long lasting friendships with fellow Elks all across this Great State of Texas. At this convention, I will be installed as 2022-2023 Vice President for the Gulf Coast District. Other events this month include our Flag Day Ceremony along with the Flag Retirement Ceremony on June 14. We will also hold a Father’s Day Celebration on June 19 and Bob Englander will be having his 70 th birthday party on June 25. Stay tuned, and keep a look out for flyers and eblast notifications of all events. What makes this organization so great is that we are a volunteer organization. What makes us volunteers? Valuable is the work you do Outstanding is how you always come through Loyal Sincere and full of good cheer Untiring in YOUR efforts throughout the year Notable are the contributions you make Trustworthy in every project you take Eager to reach your every goal Effective in the way you fulfill your role Ready with a smile like a shining star Special and wonderful is what you are Fraternally yours, Renay Bennett Exalter Ruler Published Monthly Volume 132, Issue 6 A Fraternal Organization June 2022 1
FROM THE ESTEEMED LECTURING KNIGHT Hi, my brothers and sisters, I was elected to a new job and looking forward to this year. Sally DiPalma told us that two young people received hearing aids recently. One boy was crying because he could now hear his teacher and he was able to hear his mother for the first time! Herb Hammond is still fighting bladder cancer and each treatment leaves him weak, please say a prayer for him. PER Mike Betenbaugh had a heart procedure recently to stop irregular heartbeats and he’s doing fine now. Laurie Neinast fell at her mailbox and broke a finger and bruised herself but attended the Mother’s Day function and was in good spirits. Terry Doig reported that Rick Doig has had a successful re- construction surgery to rebuild his jaw for a second time as a result of a motorcycle accident so years ago. Please keep in touch with friends and neighbors that you know are ailing. Fraternally Yours, Fred Scholibo FROM THE BOARD of DIRECTORS Greeting Fellow Lodge Members, Your Board of Directors have been working to improve the RV area. We now have concrete pads on all ten of the RV pad sites in addition to some electrical box repairs. Our RV park was never intended to have permanent residents, but it does, and it will now be limited. Only the current full time residents will be grandfathered in. All new residents will have a maximum of a sixty (60) day stay. 3 spaces will be reserved for visiting Elks traveling to the area for medical attention. These spots can be granted extended stay and will be addressed case by case at the discretion of the Board. Due to the rising cost of everything the RV rents will be increasing by $50, effective June 1, 2022. Most importantly the Board will be inspecting regularly to ensure all coaches are kept in compliance with registration and licensing to be street legal. Any coach not in compliance will not be permitted to remain on the property Fraternally, Andy Mishaga, PSP 3 Year Trustee JUNE Volunteers of the Month Darleen Crisamore & Joy Olmos Published Monthly Volume 132, Issue 6 A Fraternal Organization June 2022 2
FROM THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY As I write this article, we still have 83 members who have not yet paid their dues this is down from 99 last month. We have had a lot of fun activities, if you weren’t here for them you missed out. Come out to the Lodge and join the fun. Our Lodge Sweetheart Terrie Wetz is going great guns and has a lot of fun activities and fund raisers scheduled come out and be a part of the great work we do for the Kid’s.
