Summer 2018 Made possible by the customers of Altona and Laverton Community Bank® branches, including Point Cook Business Centre. Around our community. Wow what an amazing few months it has been for our community. We are certainly keeping very busy with all the activity and festivals within the Hobsons Bay and Wyndham districts. Laverton Festival was held in November and what a perfect weather day we received. This event is such an amazing community spirited day. Local talent performed and the Police Pipe Band attended also. Our staff and committee members that were present enjoyed the day immensely and were very surprised at the number of the attendees that doubled from the previous year. The organisers have managed to keep this festival very cost effective and still supplying free activities for the children. Congratulations to all involved with the organising and we look forward to participating again this year. Christmas at the Lakes was unfortunately cancelled this year due to extreme weather conditions. A very disappointed organising committee needed to make this decision as the attendees’ safety is the first priority. The committee also advised that they will start planning again for the 2018 event and will return bigger and better! Art Show. Australia Day. Australia Day in Altona is a free community event provided by the Altona Traders Association. Piggy especially loves this event and enjoys hanging out with the children on the beach and getting to build a sandcastle. There were some amazing creations built on the day and the judges struggle each year to choose the winners. Congratulations also to this committee that works tirelessly all year to bring this day together. Peter Shepheard from Altona Rotary reported the following after the Art Show. From Friday 13 to Sunday 15 October Altona Rotary ran its 40th Annual Art Show now known as the Hobson’s Bay Art Show. This year we moved to a new venue at Altona RSL in a smaller space than previous years but with better conditions. Some 50 artists submitted a total of 138 pieces with the judge selecting Best in Show along with Best Oil/Acrylic, Watercolour, Other Medium and Hobson’s Bay Scene. Thanks to the funding support of the Altona and Laverton Community Bank® branches, we will raise funds for various club projects including the KickStart Breakfast Program at Altona P-9 College which we fund in conjunction with Bendigo Bank. This year’s show was a great success and planning for 2018 is already underway. Altona Beach. Another program that we have been involved with is the Altona Beach Assessible Program. We assisted the program, in partnership with Altona Rotary, in providing a children’s beach accessible wheelchair. Brodie’s smile says it all. Shares now Shares now available. available.
