Mon 17 June 7:30am Running Club Run, Jump, Throw 5:30pm P&C meeting Tues 18 June 8:15am Uniform Shop 1:00pm – 2:10 pm Children’s Sing Festival NEWSLETTER The Kindy class had a hospital familiarisation incursion to increase their knowledge and reduce their anxiety about hospitalisation and medical care. They had a lot of fun using a range of medical equipment such as wheel- chairs, crutches and bandages and were able to role play on a life size doll. NAME ANNOUNCED FOR NEW SECONDARY COLLEGE IN SUBIACO Dental Van The Minister for Education and Training, Hon Sue Ellery has announced that The Leederville Dental Van the new secondary college for Subiaco will be named Bob Hawke College. is located at Mount Bob Hawke College Principal John Burke looks forward to working towards Hawthorn Primary School. delivering what will be an exceptional learning environment for the first intake Any emergencies please of 250 students in 2020. call 0408 926 794. Have you enrolled for Kindergarten and Pre-Primary 2020? Enrolments are now open for Kindergarten and Pre- Primary in 2020. Please call into the school office as soon as possible to complete enrolment forms. Many families missed out on a place for Kindy this year so if you know of someone requiring a place for 2020, please let them know. Closing date for applications is Friday 26 July 2019. Current Kindy families will need to fill out a new enrolment form for Pre-Primary 2020. NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS READING ACTIVITY Charlotte Hull from Year 5 read the story ‘Alpacas with Maracas’ by Matt Cosgrove, to the whole school over the PA at 11:00am on Wednesday 22 May, as we celebrated National Simultaneous Reading Day along with over 1,138,889 participants, from over 11,554 locations, making 2019 the biggest and most successful year yet, with 1 in 28 people in Australia reading simultaneously! Charlotte was accompanied by David Stefkovski Year 5 on maracas. Activities related to the story were available for children to complete after the reading. SCHOOL PHOTOS The school photo days are Wednesday and Thursday 19 and 20 June. Further information will be out to parents shortly. REPORTS Semester 1 reports and work books (Kindergarten and Pre Primary) will not be available prior to the advertised date. Please refer to your term planner for details. LIBRARY Children and parents are reminded that the library is opened before school on Monday and Wednesday for borrowing and returning books. BIKE HELMETS While it is terrific that children are riding their bikes to and from school, it has been reported that some children are not wearing a helmet. It is compulsory under Western Australian law to wear a helmet while riding your bike for safety reasons. Thank you to parents for ensuring your children wear a helmet when bike riding. DROP OFF AND PICK UP OF CHILDREN Parents are asked to please adhere to the parking signs around the school when dropping off and picking up children. Please follow the footpaths when entering and exiting the front entrance to the school grounds. This is the safest route. Thank you to children that walk their bike, scooter etc. while on school grounds. The staff car parks are not available for parent parking. STUDENT DRESS REQUIREMENTS Thank you very much to our parents who always ensure their child/ ren wear the Lake Monger school uniform. Now the cooler weather is here some children are wearing items that are not a part of the school uniform i.e.: leggings, different col- oured windcheater tops, denim items of clothing etc. Children are required to wear hats all year round. Caps are not a part of our school uniform. Sunsmart Message Thank you very much to Mrs Pamela Van der Meulen and Mrs Judy Dickinson our volunteer uniform co-ordinators for all their work. CLASSROOM CASH The West Australian, The Weekend West and The Sunday Times are giving Western Australian schools the chance to WIN a share of $17,000. Please collect as many Classroom Cash entry coupons as possible from these editions of The West Australian, The Weekend West and The Sunday Times so Lake Monger Primary School can have a chance to win a share of the money on offer. P&C The next P&C meeting is on Monday 17 June in the Conference Room commencing at 5.30pm. Vision and eyes Good vision is important for learning and quality of life. Watch for any of the following in your child: covering/closing one eye when reading holding books very close complaining of eyestrain or headache complaining of double vision or blurred vision with reading or board viewing complaining of words moving on a page losing place when reading, or skipping words and lines inattention or short attention span when reading, or rubbing the eyes. Please note: Medicare covers the cost of an eye examination. If you have a concern about your child’s vision please contact a doctor, optometrist or your local Community Health Nurse.
