Ellen Ochoa

                   Ellen Ochoa made her mark by becoming the first Hispanic
American woman to go to space with a nine-day mission in 1993.

Ochoa was born in 1958 in Los Angeles, California, years after her paternal
grandparents immigrated from Mexico. She first obtained her physics degree from San
Diego State University and later her masters and doctorate from Stanford University’s
department of electrical engineering by 1985.

Through her impressive research work, NASA selected Ochoa in 1991 and she became
an astronaut in July of that year. Two years later, Ochoa made history on board the
Space Shuttle Discovery on a mission to study the Earth’s ozone layer. She later
completed three more missions.

ANNOUNCMENTS :

The National Honor Society is selling the 2022 coupon books from Sept. 20th thru
Oct. 1st. Save money on food, entertainment, health and wellness, and even uniforms
from many of your favorite NWI businesses. Books are $20 each and can be purchased
from any NHS member.

Culinary Club will be meeting this Wednesday from 3:20-5pm in Ms. Tubbs
room. This week we will be continuing with what to do with fall produce.

SENIOR PICTURES
The final days for Senior Photos will be after school on Sept. 29 and Sept. 30.
Only the formal photos taken by our photographer will be used for seniors in the
portrait section of the 2022 yearbook.
There is a $10 sitting fee to pay for the photographer. Prints are available for an extra
cost.
Semiformal dress is required. Shirts and ties for boys; and shirts with sleeves and
appropriate necklines for girls.

School Newspaper
Check out the school newspaper site -- mhsmirrornews.com -- for new stories about
your classmates and teachers. New stories include interviews with our Homecoming
Court. The site will be updated weekly.

Club Fund Raisers
1) Spanish Club will be selling chocolate bars from World's Finest Chocolate
2) Chipotle will be hosting a fundraiser for our senior class of 2022 on September 25,
2021 from 4-8pm at the Chipotle in Merrillville. Let people know that they need to
mention the Merrillville senior class at checkout
3) Rise n Roll fundraiser dates Oct 26-Nov 12
4) Chick fil A fundraiser for our seniors 2022, this will take place on November 16 from
5-7pm at the Chick fil A in Merrillville.

Seniors/Jostens – Graduation 2022
Jostens will be here Oct. 1 & 29 to take orders for Cap and Gowns and other
merchandise. They will be here during lunch hours from 10:52 am till 12:47 pm.

 Art Club will meet after school on Wednesday only until 4:00pm.
