NEWSLETTER NO. 3 MARCH 17, 2021 BASS COAST SS NEWS BASS COAST SPECIALIST SCHOOL Dear parents and carers, There are so many things to share with you as we approach the end of this fast-paced term! It has been such a positive start and the students have settled extremely well in their classes and have demonstrated our school values in so many settings. Today, I was lucky to join in the Juniors on their excursion to Magilla’s Play Centre in Korumburra. The young students were so excited to be in a new learning and playing space and it was rewarding to see the students challenge themselves through the obstacle course and share some of the equipment amongst themselves. It was clearly evident that the Junior staff team ‘know their students and how they learn’ as they were supporting the students through this new experience. Last week, we also had three of our Middle school students, Hope Tyrone, Natasha Allen and Blair Maguire; join a Student Leadership Conference with neighbouring primary schools from South Gippsland at the Inverloch Community Hub. Our young student leaders listened to guest speakers Beau Vernon and Sophie Bolding discuss the qualities of good leadership and having a positive mindset. They also had to come up with a school project that will be very exciting so stay tuned for that! In the senior school, our students have been engaged in the school and wider community. They are all busy from Monday to Wednesday cooking up a storm in the kitchen with Kerryn and Terry is working closely with the students to grow some amazing veggies in our kitchen garden for our winter soups. Our graduating students have begun making some connections for their post school career options and have visited Scope, Interchange and Yooralla. Meanwhile, we also have other senior students engaging with community groups such as TAFE and the Rescue Station for some shared activities with other young students in the area. We are looking forward to more adventures and learning in our community and will keep you post- ed on our journey this year. Have a great rest of the week! Warm wishes, Caroline Sibly Assistant Principal
