OUR MODEL Established in 2000, Africa Bridge helps children and their families in the remote villages of southern Tanzania overcome dire poverty by developing and implementing sustainable, volunteer-based social service and economic solutions. Our team of Tanzanian employees is based in Tukuyu, Tanzania and empowers villagers to create local solutions for local problems. Our five-year program identifies the most vulnerable children and develops care plans for them, establishes farm co-ops to produce household income, and delivers training that advances the future of the entire community. This model builds community self-sufficiency, economic independence, food security, and lasting change. To date, Africa Bridge has helped create a bright future for 37 villages and more than 8,500 children. BUILDING BRIDGES Africa Bridge also touches local communities in the U.S. with our “This Is My School” Program (TIMS). TIMS provides the venue for partner schools in the United States to interact with Tanzanian schools in a meaningful way. U.S. students generate resources to improve the environment and opportunities for children around the world to learn. This support comes through curriculum building, innovative learning, and resource generating activities. Locally, Stafford Primary School, Riverdale School District, Rosemont Ridge Middle School, Lincoln Middle School, and Wood Middle School all participate in the TIMS program. TIMS brings together US and Tanzanian schools as a community of learners. U.S. students learn to be a resource in the development of world citizenship by using their talents and skills to do good work. COMMUNITY NEEDS We have just begun a new investment in three villages within the Kambasegela Ward, located in the rural southern highlands of Tanzania. There are 1,500 vulnerable children in Kambasegela Ward, living in households subsisting on less than one dollar per day. As always, our goal in these villages is to empower people through our five-year sustainable development model that pairs short-term startup capital with extensive training to enable villagers to achieve long-term economic success. Kambasegela is the poorest group of villages we have worked with and the children need your help. Through partnering with voluntary village committees, we have identified the most impoverished households in these villages. At the end of 2017, we began helping vulnerable children living in these households. Additionally, we helped enroll over one third of these households in village-based farm cooperatives, teaching villagers how to participate in cooperative groups, and created internal savings/lending programs. In 2018, we want to provide even more micro- finance for the purchase of cows, chickens, and animal shelter building materials. SPONSORSHIP IMPACT With your help Africa Bridge can provide brighter futures for people in rural villages, providing opportunities for most vulnerable children and their guardians, village committees, and farming co-ops. Through your sponsorship, you are providing opportunities for vulnerable children and families to move toward sustainable incomes. You will lift them and their villages out from the worst impacts of poverty and offer a brighter future for all. Support Africa Bridge today!
