WHO CAN APPLY FOR A GRANT? •Any public library or public library system •chartered by the NYS Regents or •established by an act of the NYS Legislature
HOW DO YOU APPLY? Application materials are on the NYSL website: http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/libdev/construc/index.html Application materials can also be found at the NCLS website: http://ncls.northcountrylibraries.org/node/117
HOW MUCH MONEY IS AVAILABLE? HOW MUCH CAN ONE LIBRARY APPLY FOR? • Annual budget appropriation ($408, 584) • System-wide Allocation of available funds • Up to 75% of total project approved costs if you meet the guidelines to qualify as an “economically disadvantaged community” and there is sufficient funding • $5,000 minimum project cost
WHAT KINDS OF PROJECTS ARE ELIGIBLE? • SITE ACQUISITION • Purchase of vacant land (Library Construction Bill (S.4101/A.113) or land with an existing building and evidence of plans and available funding to construct a new building or parking lot. • NEW CONSTRUCTION • New library building • Addition to existing library building • Demolition and Site Preparation
WHAT KINDS OF PROJECTS ARE ELIGIBLE? • BUILDING RENOVATION/REHABILITATION • Installation of photovoltaic panels, geothermal wells, and other alternative energy resources • Replacement of roofs, windows, and doors • Accessible entryways (ramps & doorways) and bathrooms • Installation of elevators • New electrical, plumbing, lighting, and HVAC • New driveways, sidewalks, and parking lots • Reconstruction of existing space • New furniture, equipment, and shelving for new or newly reconfigured space

Lowville Free Library The library received assistance from the New York State construction grant program to renovate the lower level of the Comfortable reading area building.
