Together with High Level Representatives from Africa we will discuss the right business environment for agro-industries and agribusiness development, investment strategies and public-private partnerships. More specifically we will also analyze the role of German agribusinesses and what they can offer in order to develop successful agribusinesses in Africa.

This session will discuss how to unleash the power of women farmers in Africa and their impact on livelihood and food production. Together with experts we aim to discuss how to improve access to education, financing and inputs. In this discussion we will give an example of a successful partnership and will discuss the key to success, but also the limits of cooperation. 02:30 – 03:15 pm Networking Coffee Break 03:15 – 04:15 pm 3 Parallel Working Groups Working Group 1: AfricaConnect – small ticket financing for investments in the African agriculture sector Hosted by Working Group 2: Food Value Chain Development Through Agri-Food Value Chains African countries aim to increase their competitive advantage through strategic partnerships among different stakeholders. In this working group we will see how successful Food Value Chains are being developed and how they can succeed economically, socially and environmentally sustainable. Working Group 3: Beyond the Farm: How to make agriculture a lucrative business for the youth? Young Entrepreneurs across Africa are recognizing untapped opportunities in the agrifood sector. Together with young managers from Germany we want to discuss how Africa can develop a supportive ecosystem for the young to succeed in agribusiness. This session will discuss digitalization, the environment, market-led ventures and how different actors can collaborate in order to support young agripreneurs to make agriculture a sustainable and lucrative business. 04:15 – 05:15 pm 3 Parallel Working Groups Working Group 4: European – African Agribusiness Cooperation Launched in May 2018, the Task Force Rural Africa was set up to provide advice on strengthening the Africa-Europe partnership in food and farming. According to the group, Africa and the EU should develop a partnership operating at three levels: people-to-people, business-to-business, and government-to-government. We aim to discuss the implementation of concrete actions and how African and European Businesses could get involved in order to intensify the cooperation between the two continents.
Working Group 5: Leveraging Digital Transformation in order to unlock Africa’s Agri-Food Potential Digitalization can be a game-changer in transforming Africa’s agriculture and can help African farmers to optimize their production inclusively and sustainably. Next to opportunities we will assess the challenges of digitalization and address issues such as farmer data privacy, scale up solutions and infrastructure investments.
