eans2020.cologne@gmail.com The 2021 EANS Summer School will be hosted by the Institute of Nursing Science, Faculty of Medicine, University of Cologne. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to Cologne! If, due to the ongoing pandemic, it is not possible to meet in person, the summer school will be held as online event, but at present, we are still planning for a “real” summer school and hope to meet in Cologne! Welcome to Cologne - cosmopolitan and modern metropolis on the Rhine Cologne is a 2,000-year-old city in the west of Germany on the Rhine and the cultural center of its region. With about 1.1 million inhabitants, Cologne is the fourth largest city in Germany. The present-day metropolis was founded in Roman times and is now one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations due to the important Cologne Cathedral, a Gothic cathedral with its famous two towers (world heritage), its Romanesque churches as well as other medieval monuments, a more than 2000-year-old city history, important events and their cultural and culinary heritage. The favorable location on the Rhine and a well-developed infrastructure with an extensive rail passenger long- distance traffic, four inland ports and the Cologne/Bonn Airport also implies Cologne an international significance as an economic and cultural metropolis. ©Fabian Stürtz - Universität zu Köln ©Fabian Stürtz - Universität zu Köln Links: ©Christian Wittke – Medizinische Fakultät Köln ©Fabian Stürtz - Universität zu Köln
eans2020.cologne@gmail.com Faculty of Medicine, University of Cologne The University of Cologne is one of the oldest and largest universities in Europe. Due to its outstanding scientific achievements besides the high quality and diversity of its degree programs, it enjoys an excellent international reputation. The Faculty of Medicine is one of six Faculties of the University and integrates 10 study programs, more than 3,600 students and about 1,800 scientists in over 50 clinical departments, institutes and centers for research and teaching, with an outstanding focus on interdisciplinary, practice-, patient- and science-oriented teaching as well as translational research. In 2017, the Faculty of Medicine established the new academic teaching and research field for Clinical Nursing in cooperation with the University Hospital Cologne as a major pillar of the University Medicine Cologne and as one of the first University study programs in Nursing Sciences at a medical faculty in Germany. The 4-year dual study program in Clinical Nursing, with currently 96 full time BSc students combines a vocational training as Registered Nurse and academic education in nursing- related research fields to focus on evidence-based practice, complex patient care and nursing research. In addition, the Faculty of Medicine supports the international exchange of nursing students with over 80 European and non-European partner universities and within the “Studium Integrale” offers versatile possibilities for the extension of soft skills (e.g. communication, presentation or foreign languages), as well as political or cultural exchanges with students of all disciplines. Since early 2020, Prof. Sascha Köpke has been head of the study program and the newly founded Institute of Nursing Science. ©MedizinFotoKöln - Medizinische Fakultät Köln
