TREKKER TRAKKS Spring 2021 NW Tulip Trekkers Volkssport Walking Club From the President NW Tulip Trekkers, It is sure nice to see spring coming and more daylight hours. Along with that the warmer weather and added sunshine will make walking more enjoyable. The past year has been a rough one for most of us and for me walking has been sort of a sanity saver; things feel normal when I am walking. I recently sent you the AVA survey regarding the AVA Bi-Annual Meeting planned for Madison, WI. Please take the time to give them feedback. The AVA convention committee is trying to decide whether to hold the event in June, postpone it to later in the year or cancel it. Cheryl and I have attended the last two conventions and we had a lot of fun at both. We went to one in Billings, MT and one in Albany, NY. It is a chance to meet fellow walkers from all over and tour a different part of the country. We are hoping they postpone it because we will not be ready to go to such a large gathering in June. NWTT is planning a one-day event in Bellingham on Saturday, August 7. We have postponed this event twice due to covid, so I really hope that third time is a charm. Our plan is to use the Bellingham Senior Center as our walk central so when they re-open, we will talk with them and get assurance that they are still willing to let us use their facility. The event walks that we have laid out are wonderful and will attract many walkers. We will also have a guided walk on the afternoon/evening before the event. Check out the link on the AVA site https://my.ava.org/find-an-event.php . If we are able to go forward with our event, we will hold an online meeting to plan and re-establish an event committee. I would like your candid feedback regarding whether you would attend and if you would be interested in working at the event. I am not asking for a formal commitment; I just want to understand how the members feel about it ( NWTTclub@gmail.com ). I believe that members should be aware of the club’s financial health so I have attached a copy of the 2020 Financial Report that Cheryl, our Treasurer, prepared and I submitted to AVA. If you have specific questions, please send them to our club email NWTTclub@gmail.com . Some of you know that NWTT no longer receives free printing services. This necessitated that we buy a club printer because we still need maps/directions, walk box books, etc. We have seen other operating expenses increase as well. I appreciate the continued support from members and non-members who are joining our group walks and those walking individually or in small groups. I am hopeful that we will return to a more “normal” situation by midyear. We are all looking forward to the US-Canadian border reopening. Our 12 BC members will actually be able to come to our walks again and we can go up there to walk with them. I don’t know about a summer BBQ, but it would be great to have a Christmas party again this year!! Tim Fisher NWTT President JvZ 2021 Mar 14 Page 1

Blaine (Judy A) La Conner Ferndale (Tom and Penny) NW Tulip Trekker Walks by Tom W, Trailmaster We have planned our walks for 2021 and we are confident that we will see more hosts back as vaccinations are becoming more widely available. We are maintaining good turnouts at every walk. Elizabeth Green has joined our group of walk hosts. I would like to thank Judy M for being able to assist on many walks as well as Sue W for assisting on walks and ensuring that we have all supplies needed. We are planning an evening walk in the summer, but we are open to adding more if there is an interest to do so. We are always looking for interesting walks and if you have one in mind that can become a 10k walk, please talk to me on one of our walks. Remember to check out the 19 walks that we have available at our friendship walks as well as at all of our locations where there is a physical start box and you can also sign up online at the OSB (online start box). Join us for our walks in Bellingham, Blaine, Burlington, Lynden, Deception Pass, Ferndale, Birch Bay, Friday Harbor, Anacortes, Mount Vernon, La Conner and Coupeville. JvZ 2021 Mar 14 Page 5
