About LVPEI L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), established in 1987, is a world-class eye health institute encompassing clinical care, education, research, rehabilitation, eye banking and high impact rural eye care. A World Health Organization(WHO) collaborating centre for the prevention of blindness, the Institute offers comprehensive patient care, sight enhancement and rehabilitation services and high-impact rural eye health programs. It also pursues cutting edge research and offers training for various eye care professionals and administrative personnel. LVPEI’s Kallam Anji Reddy campus at Hyderabad, a Centre of Excellence, is complemented by three Tertiary Centres – MTC campus in Bhubaneswar, GMR Varalakshmi campus in Visakhapatnam and the Kode Venkatadri Chowdary campus in Vijayawada. Education at LVPEI From its very inception, training has been a key part of LVPEI’s activities. Training programs are offered for personnel at all levels of the eye care service delivery chain: post doctoral ophthalmology fellows and practicing ophthalmologists, optometrists, ophthalmic technicians, nurses, nursing assistants, support staff and eye care administrators. Education at LVPEI has three main objectives: • To upgrade the skills of practicing eye care professionals • To provide opportunities to keep abreast of developments in the field of vision science and eye care service delivery • To equip new entrants to the ophthalmic/optometric field with appropriate skills and knowledge
Diploma in Ophthalmic Techniques (DOT) Objective: To offer a practical-based intensive clinical training in developing the ophthalmic human resources in providing the eye care services in eliminating the visual impairment and blindness. Program structure: During the 3 years of the program, course work and hands-on clinical training in the first 18 months and remaining 18 months of clinical training in LVPEI network clinics, each trainee will be rotated through comprehensive, subspecialty clinics, ophthalmic diagnostics including optometry subspecialties like contact lenses, low vision & rehabilitation and ophthalmic dispensing. DOT is collaborative program between Foundation of Ophthalmic & Optometry Research Education Centre (FOOREC) and LVPEI. DOT program is recognized by Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC) Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The HSSC has been promoted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC). DOT program details Program duration 3 years Start date 01 August 2019 INR 31,000/- per year Course fee (subject to change during the admission notification) DOT program locations Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar campuses If a trainee chooses to stay in the hostel, then the hostel and mess Accommodation and mess charges INR 33,000/- (hostel fee: 9000/- and mess charges: 24000/- charges for six months) to be paid at the time of admission (for Hyderabad campus only) Scholarships Available for financially underprivileged students Trainee should bring one’s own Retinoscope, trial frame and Jackson’s Requirement Cross Cylinder (JCC) for training.
