CURTAIN RAISER www.partnersforum2018.com SHRI JAGAT PRAKASH NADDA Union Minister Health & Family Welfare Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda is the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare in the Government of India, a post he has held since 2014. Under his leadership, India has continued to achieve notable public health successes, including the elimination of yaws and maternal and neonatal tetanus, and the launch of nation-wide programs to increase coverage of essential services such as immunization. Shri Nadda has also played an important role in the global health landscape. In 2015, India led a workstream on national leadership that greatly contributed to the development of the 2016-2030 Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health, which was launched alongside the Sustainable Development Goals. He is also a member of the High-Level Steering Group for Every Woman Every Child, chaired by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, to help provide leadership and inspire ambitious action for women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health globally. Shri Nadda was first elected to the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1993, and subsequently re-elected in 1998. He served as the Leader of his party group during his first term, and was the Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs during his second term. Nadda was elected for another term in 2007, and served as cabinet minister responsible for Forest, Environment, Science and Technology from 2008 to 2010.
CURTAIN RAISER www.partnersforum2018.com DR. MICHELLE BACHELET JERIA Former President of the Republic of Chile Incoming Board Chair of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health H.E. Dr. Michelle Bachelet is a Chilean politician who served as the President of Chile from 2006-2010, and from 2014-2018. She holds a Medical Degree with a specialization in Surgery, Paediatrics and Public Health. During the 1980s and 90s, Ms. Bachelet held several health-related positions such as with the National AIDS Commission (Conasida), the Pan-American Health Organization, and the Ministry of Health, to improve primary care and service management. Dr. Bachelet became the Health Minister of Chile in 2000 and continued as the first female Defence Minister in Latin America in 2002. In 2006, Dr. Bachelet became the first female President of Chile, marking a new governmental era of social inclusion and gender equality. After her first term as President in 2010 she served as president of a joint initiative with the International Labour Organization and the World Health Organization before moving on to join UN Women as its first Executive Director. She held this position until March 2013 when she returned to Chile to run for and take the post as President.

PRIYANKA CHOPRA Actress, Activist, Producer UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Priyanka Chopra is a multifaceted personality and one of the most recognized talents in the world. Her foray into the entertainment industry began at the age of 17 when she won Miss India and went on to win Miss World the following year, a title that catapulted her to international stardom. Priyanka has earned popular and critical acclaim on ABC’s hit drama Quantico, making history as the first Indian actor to star as the lead of a TV drama series. Priyanka has also won two consecutive People’s Choice Awards for her role in Quantico, again making history as the first Indian actress to do so. In April 2016 she was featured on the cover of TIME magazine’s coveted TIME 100 issue as one of the Most Influential People in the world. Priyanka recently made her Hollywood film debut in the action comedy film Baywatch (2017) and has two upcoming films. Additionally, Priyanka produces global TV and film content under her banner Purple Pebble Pictures. With more than 70 million social media followers, Priyanka is also committed to using her reach for good. Priyanka is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and has been a National Goodwill Ambassador to India for 11 years. She is also a United Nations Foundation Girl Up Champion, and is involved in a number of efforts to protect children’s rights and promote the education of girls in India, including her namesake charity The Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education.

APARAJITA GOGOI National Coordinator, White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood India Executive Director, Centre for Catalyzing Change Dr. Aparajita Gogoi is a passionate advocate and crusader for the health and rights of women and young girls. She works with many organizations, networks and advocates to affect change by mobilizing action and people. Dr. Gogoi is the Executive Director of Centre for Catalyzing Change and the National Coordinator of the White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood India. In her current work, she deals daily with a range of issues, from promoting safe motherhood to empowerment of adolescent girls. While the scope of these problems is daunting, Aparajita believes that in time, with commitment, working together, we can help to eliminate these problems. She has received recognition for her work in various forums, including by The Guardian, UK, which in 2011 named Aparajita as one of the world’s 100 most inspiring women. She holds a PhD (International Politics), from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and a Post graduate diploma in Journalism.
