Centre and ADB sign US$ 926 million loan agreement for Mumbai Metro The Centre and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a US$ 926 million dollar loan agreement to operationalize two lines of the Mumbai Metro Rail System. It is the single largest infrastructure project loan in ADB history approved by the ADB Board. The project will ease the distress of millions of commuters each day and help provide a cleaner and less congested city.
Once operational by the end of 2022, an estimated two million passengers a day will use the two new lines. 2. 25th Prime Minister's Trophy for the year 2016-17 presented in New Delhi The 25th Prime Minister's Trophy for the best performing integrated steel plants for the year 2016-17 was presented in New Delhi. Tata Steel Limited, Jamshedpur, bagged the Prime Minister's Trophy for the Best Overall Performance along with a cash prize of 2 Crore rupees. Tata Steel was able to set new benchmarks in productivity and techno-economics in 2016-17 for the domestic steel industry. The Steel Minister’s Trophy along with a cash prize of 1 Crore rupees was bagged by JSW Steel Limited - Vijayanagar Works for 2nd Best Overall Performance among other participating Plants. 3. PM Modi inaugurated ‘Construction Technology India-2019’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Construction Technology India-2019 Expo-cum-Conference in New Delhi. The conference will identify proven, innovative and globally established technologies for use in the Indian context. Technology providers, researchers, start-ups, developers, academia, public sector agencies and other domain experts are participating in the two day event. 4. Government to celebrate ‘Poshan Pakhwada’ from 8th to 22nd March 2019 across the Country
The Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi announced that the Government will celebrate the first anniversary of POSHAN Abhiyaan on 8th March 2019 by organising Poshan Pakhwada across the Country. The key activities including Poshan Melas, Rally on nutrition at all level, Prabhat Pheree, Session on nutrition at schools, self-help group meetings, anaemia camps will be carried out during the event. The Poshan Pakhwada will be celebrated on lines of ‘Poshan Maah’ held in the month of September 2018. The Pakhwada will be launched on International Women’s Day, 8th March 2019. 5. Govt bans Jamat-e-Islami J&K for 5 years The Centre has banned the Jamat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir for five years under the anti-terror law. The Jamaat is in close touch with terror outfits and is supporting extremism and terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and elsewhere. The notification comes barely a few days after the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested around 100 cadres of the group in the state. The crackdown comes after February 14 terrorist attack in Pulwama, in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed. 6. Indian economy expected to grow at 7.3% in 2019-20: Moody's
Indian economy is expected to grow at 7.3 per cent in calendar years 2019 and 2020, according to the US- based rating agency Moody's. The agency has made this expectation in its quarterly Global Macro Outlook for 2019 and 2020. The agency said that India is less exposed to a slowdown in global manufacturing trade growth. Points to Remember Moody's growth estimates are based on the calendar year. India measures its economic growth on the basis of the fiscal year from April to March. 7. Ravneet Gill takes charge as Yes Bank MD, CEO Ravneet Gill has taken charge as MD and CEO of Yes Bank with immediate effect. His tenure as approved by RBI is 3 years from the date of his joining, i.e. March 1, 2019, to February 28, 2022. On January 24 Yes Bank has received RBI approval for its new MD & CEO to join on or before March 1, 2019. Ajai Kumar has ceased to be an Interim MD & CEO of the Bank with effect from the close of business hours of February 28, 2019.

Air Marshal RD Mathur AVSM VSM assumes charge of Eastern Air Command of IAF Air Marshal RD Mathur AVSM VSM assumed charge of the Eastern Air Command of the Indian Air Force, at Shillong, as its Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief. He is an alumnus of St Joseph's Academy, Dehradun. Mr Mathur had joined the National Defence Academy in 1978 and was commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force in June 1982. For his distinguished service, he was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal in 2003 and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2014 by the President of India. 9. Chris Gayle became the first player to smash 500 sixes in international cricket West Indies batsman Chris Gayle has become the first batsman ever to smash 500 or more sixes in international cricket. In the 4th ODI against England, he scored 162 runs with 14 sixes and 11 fours. He now has 506 sixes in international cricket (98 in Tests, 305 in ODIs and 103 in T20Is). Chris Gayle has announced his retirement from ODIs after the World Cup. Gayle also breached 10,000-run mark in ODIs and become only the second West Indian after Brian Lara (10,405 runs) to achieve the milestone.
