Gosport Leisure Centre Swimming Lessons Spring Newsletter April 2019 Welcome to Spring 2019’s edition of our Swimming Lessons newsletter. Hopefully with the clocks changing and the warmer weather approaching swimming lessons will become a more pleasurable experience once again for both children and adults alike. Thank you for your continued custom and should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me at kimtaylor@pfpleisure.org Adult and Baby, Adult and Toddler and Pre-school classes We want to let you know our lesson breaks for the above classes: Easter – Monday 8th April 2019 to Saturday 20th April 2019. Please note all lessons will run as normal on Monday 22nd April (Easter Monday). May half term – Monday 27th May to Saturday 1st June 2019. Easter Intensive Swimming Lessons As in previous school holidays we willbe running our Intensive Swimming Courses. These courses will take place in the teaching pool and run for five consecutive days on either week of the Easter holidays (Monday 8th to Friday 12th April 2019 and Monday 15th to Friday 19th April 2019). The half hour sessions will be taken by Lorraine and will run at 8.30am, 9.00am and 9.30am daily. The cost for the week is £50.00. Home portal/progress queries May I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their patience whilst the swimming lesson system was updated earlier this year. Unfortunately there were some minor technical problems with the Home Portal synchronisation. This issue was company-wide and, whilst most problems are now resolved there are occasional ‘blips’; please let me know if the home portal has not been updated a couple of days following a lesson so I can check this out for you. Please note that cover teachers are not required to update the children’s assessment. This is to retain consistency of the swimmers ability within the stages criteria and is therefore left to the regular teachers.
Staffing Congratulations to Katie who passed the British Swimming Level 2 Teaching Qualificationin February this year. Katie is a great asset to our team, teaching pre-school, junior, adult and school lessons. Keep up the good work Katie. Unfortunately we will be saying goodbye to Jennifer and Megan who are leaving to pursue their further education. Jenny’s Tuesday classes will now be taken by Rhyanna and her Thursday classes by Kelsey. Megan’s Wednesday classes will be taken by Mike and her Saturday classes by Kelsey. We are sad to see them go and wish them all the best for the future. They are both staying on for holiday cover so I’m sure we will be seeing them around the pool area covering lessons as and when needed. Have a look at our teacher training sessions… All our swimming teachers hold an up to date National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC) or National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) and undertake regular training sessions. So you can rest assured your children are in safe hands during their lessons with us.
New Classes With effect from Saturday 30th March a third Saturday morning pre-school class is being introduced. This class will be run alongside the other pre-school sessions at 7.50am and will be taken by Mike. There is currently a waiting list for this class, and we will be reviewing the programme to establish if additional time can be made available. We have recently introduced a new “Honours” class on a Monday at 5pm taken by Katie. This class is aimed at those swimmers who have completed Stage 7 and/or Rookie Lifeguard and want to continue swimming on a weekly basis, but do not want to join a swimming club. The class incorporates elements of the Swim England Stages 8, 9 and 10, the Honours Challenge and Personal Survival Level 2. For more details on this session please do not hesitate to contact us. Fundraising Champions Over the past few months some of our participants have been raising money for charities close to their hearts. Rosie had her hair cut in order to raise money for the Little Princess Trust. She is just short of her £500.00 target so I am sure she would welcome some further support. Please make sure all swimmers swipe their cards at reception prior to their lesson. 2. If you leave any certificates behind to be signed by a teacher please remember to pick them up again from reception the following week. 3. We continue to receive complaints regarding showers being reserved & changing rooms being blocked with participant belongings. We would again like to emphasise that this is not acceptable and kindly request that all parents/guardians respect this. 4. Payment for lessons is via direct debit. If you for see a problem with a payment please let us know in advance. Finally we would like to wish you all a Happy Easter. Kim, Sue, and all the swimming team here at Gosport Leisure Centre.
