Social Media
► Think BEFORE you post!
► Harassment, bullying or sexting   or any
  inappropriate use of an electronic communication
  tool can or will get you suspended or removed
  from athletics.
► This includes summers and weekends
► Know your child’s real social media account
► This includes - but is not limited to - Facebook,
  Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter
► You always represent the team, including when
  you are in the real world and the virtual world
Academics
► Academics come first
► No Exceptions
► 1st six weeks grade counts     and then every 9 weeks
  grade
► No Pass No Play
   Progress report and UIL Eligibility Chart are posted on
    our website
   Grades for a semester exam are not a part of UIL
    eligibility- Parents can monitor grades on Parent Access
    Center
   Pre-AP Classes count toward eligibility-normally suggest
    no more than 2 pre-AP classes
   This is a state law
   Students can lose eligibility the first 6 weeks grade and
    then at every nine weeks grade
Homework, Tests, and Classwork
► Students are responsible for homework and
  tests even if they have a game the evening
  before
► Most games finish before 9:00 pm
► B and C teams usually stay to watch the
  second games or at least part of the game
► Students are responsible for any work
  missed due to early release

► Basketball (Nov-Feb) Year Long Class
► Cross Country (Practice-Year Round) (Season: Aug-
  Oct) year-long class

Sports Timeline
All Sports
►   In order to try out for any sport you must have a current
    physical dated April 15, 2021 or later
►   Physical forms should be online in April, a link will be sent
    to you
►   All students must have a travel permit signed before they
    are allowed to ride the bus to a game (the travel card is on
    front page of physical)
►   Correspondence will be sent this spring announcing date of
    Physical night at TWHS (optional)
►   All athletes will sign the McCullough athletic rules

► Please  turn in physical to coach at tryouts
► Do not turn in physical and to the front
  office or nurse
► Do not email your physical to the coach
► Do not turn in shot records with physical
► Please give shot records to the school nurse
All Sports (con’t)
► 7th Grade athletics is generally 1st period
► 8th Grade athletics is generally 4th period
► Some sports require an equipment fee to purchase
  a uniform
► Entrance fee for games required for BB, FB, VB,
  Soccer
► $2 for adults $1 for students- exact change
  appreciated (this is only in CISD)
► Fees subject to change (Can cost more outside
  CISD) Magnolia ISD- $5; tournaments are more
Practice
                  (Tentative)
► 7th grade practice before school during season
  (starts at 7:00 am)
► Suggested arrival time 6:35 am
► 8th grade after school during season
  (ends at 5:30 pm)
► Students should be picked up or dropped off on
  west side of school (side by stadium)
► No practice on game days before or after school
  (normally)
► After season is over, no practice before or after
  school except for cross country. CC coaches will
  pass out practice schedule.

Athletic practice:
             Pick up and Drop off
► Students  should be picked up and dropped off on
  the west side by the football field.
► Cones are set up to provide a lane for drop off and
  pick up line
► Please do not drop your child off in the middle of
  the parking lot – making them cross traffic
► Please stay off the phone (in the parking lot) for
  the safety of the kids
► Pay attention at all times in line and in the parking
  lot
► Please be patient
Food
                Game days
► Some    sports offer optional meal delivery on
  game days.
► Order forms are passed out by coaches.
► This is not provided by the booster club.
► You must purchase and fill out form for food
  delivery
► Athletes can also bring food from home.
► It is the athlete’s responsibility to pick up
  their food on game day.
► Usually food is not delivered on tournament
  days.
Directions to Games
► Directions  to events, schools and stadiums
  are posted on the McCullough athletic
  website now for your 24 hour viewing
► We do not control weather cancellations at
  away games
► Critical updates you need will be posted at
  these Twitter accounts:

Transportation
             On game days
► The   school will provide transportation to
  games.
► Exceptions are golf and tennis.
► All football players ride to and from games
  on the bus. No exceptions.
► Other sports - legal parent or guardian may
  only take home their child after sporting
  event is finished.
Fan Behavior
► The athletic participants are in Junior high
► No scholarships are given out at Junior High
  games
► The referees are human
► Fans exhibiting bad behavior can and will be
  removed from the contest which is
  embarrassing for all involved.

State Concussion Protocol
► Is set up by the State of Texas and CISD
► Any time a concussion is suspected, this protocol
  must be followed
► This includes concussions which occurred outside
  of school
► Before an athlete can return to practice:
   24 hr symptom free
   Cleared by a medical Dr.- form turned in to coach
   6 Step UIL Protocol begins
  *If symptoms return at any time, process starts over
Volleyball : Coach Marquis
► Tryouts:   2nd Week of school (usually)
► Practices: 7th Grade before school 7:00 AM
► Students will purchase practice uniforms
► Season: Aug-Nov
Volleyball Tryout Information
► Tryouts for Volleyball will usually start the second
  week of school.
    7th grade    6:45- 8:15 am
    8th grade    4:00- 5:30 pm
► There will be no make-ups for missing         tryouts
► You must attend all tryout days

► Students  trying out for volleyball initially sign up for
  the volleyball class
► Students who do not make the team, their
  schedules will more than likely change
   ► This may include changes to core classes
Cross Country - Coach Collins
► Everyone   interested will sign up for CC on the
  elective sheet. CC is a year long commitment
► There will be a tryout the first week of school.
  Students must make a qualifying time of:
    Girls: 2 miles in 18 minutes
    Any student who does not meet this time
     requirement will be placed in a PE class
     *(schedules, including core classes, will most
     likely change)
Girls Cross Country
► The  top girls in each grade will attend the meets
  (depending on meet rules)
► **Will try to take each athlete to at least one meet
► Practices: During the class period and after
  school. Coaches will pass out practice schedules
  to students and post on website
► Cross Country is a class period (PE credit)
► Very rigorous: Do not join just because your
  friend is in the class
Cross Country
► Most  of the team members are in a summer
  training program
► There are multiple programs offered in our
  area
Basketball Off-season Class Try-outs
►   Anyone not participating in Football, CC, or VB may sign up for the
    off-season basketball class on the elective course sheet.
►   Students will be evaluated during the school day the first week of
    school.
►   Students who meet the requirements will remain in the off-season
    class.
►   Those who do not, will be moved to a PE class. (Your schedule,
    including core classes, will most likely change)
►   Those who do not make the class can still try out for the team in
    November and if they make the team will remain in off-season
    athletics the rest of the year. Their schedules including core
    classes will likely change.
Basketball Off-Season Class
               Tryouts (con’t)
► This  class will (tentatively) be first period.
    Girls : Green 1
► May practice outside at Creekwood Park
► Being in the off-season class does not
  guarantee a spot on the basketball team.
► In the past most BB players were in FB, VB,
  or CC
► EVERYONE will tryout again in November for
  the basketball team.
Basketball Team Information
Basketball (Nov-Feb)
                Coach Dawson
► Tryouts:  First part of NOVEMBER
► Who can tryout? ANYONE with a proper physical
► How many make the team? 25-27
► There are 2 teams for each grade: A and B
► Must attend all tryout days
BB cont
► GAMES:   Normally on Thursday starting at
  5:00 pm
► Tournaments are on Friday and Saturday
► Students will remain in off-season athletics
  at the conclusion of their season to fulfill
  their P.E. requirement and continue
  development.

► Includes   all athletes that are not currently in
 season.

► Begin  school at regular time when not in

► Off-season is all year
► Students will be outside when it is cold
► Athletes are preparing for next year’s
  athletic competitions
Club Sports
► Club sports are seasonal and outside of the
  school day.
► Do not plan your year around a club sport
► Club Sports are: Track and Field, Golf,
  Tennis and Soccer
► Club Sport seasons are very short
► Club Sports are not offered as a class
Club Track
                    Coach Johnson
►   Everyone that comes out for track is considered a member of
    the team.
►   UIL rules normally allow us to take four athletes per event to
    participate at the track meets. We will carry as many
    alternates to meets as the opponent will allow.
►   Practice: 4:00 – 5:15 pm (may change)
Club Track (con’t)
► Students  do not have to be in athletics to
  be in track.
► Track practice is not during the school day.
► Not offered as a class
► Many Cheer, Drill Team, Orchestra, Band,
  PPE, Choir, Soccer, Color Guard, etc
  participate in track.
► Both boys and girls go to the same track
  meets (generally)
Club Tennis : Coach Sellers

► Tryouts:  held in March or early April
► Practice: 7th grade usually before school at
  McC
► Home meets will usually be at TWHS
► Must have a proper physical
► Must attend all tryout days.
► Tennis is not offered as a class during the
  day
Club Golf: Coach Kemble
► Golf Season: April (after track)
► Tryouts: March
► Must have a proper physical to try out.
► There are no formal practices. Students
  practice on their own.
► Members of the team attend at least one
  tournament.

Club Soccer: Coach Meyer
► Tryouts:  March
► Soccer season: April-May (after track season)
► Must have a proper physical to try out.
► Must attend all tryout days
► Practice: Monday and Wednesday: After
  school 4:00 pm -5:00 pm
► Games: Thursday usually at 5:00pm and
  6:00pm
No Junior High Softball
► There   is no junior high UIL school softball in
  Texas
► Softball begins in 9th grade for UIL
► Most softball players play the sports offered
  by the UIL on our campus
Common Questions
► Students   can be in athletics and fine arts
   Encouraged – they are only kids once
   Gives you time to decide what you want to do
    in high school
   For example over 50 students are in band and
    football

► Please   fill four elective slots   (ex: Health, Comm., Art, Band,
  etc)

► Athletics  or P.E. does not count toward a
  student’s four electives classes
► The only 3 classes that substitute for PE
  initially and are on the elective sheet are:
  Football, Cross Country and off-season
  Basketball
Elective Sheet
► Cross Country, Volleyball and off-season
  Basketball will have a tryout process the first week
  of school. If you do not make the class, then you
  schedule will more than likely be changed.
► If you want to play more than one sport, you must
  sign up for the sport that happens first. Ex:
  Football and Basketball – Sign up for Football.
