Rationale The coronavirus pandemic has changed many characteristics of lives throughout the world. Greater Miami Adventist Academy is committed to providing the safest possible and best Christian educational environment for every student for the 2021-2022 school year. This plan discusses the steps necessary to provide a safe, in-person experience for students and staff. As we look forward to being together with our students, we must carefully and intentionally provide safety guidelines to be followed by our GMAA community (students, parents, faculty, stakeholders, etc.). This re-opening plan serves as a guide but is not limited to necessary changes and implementations that may be updated by local and federal health agencies. Before Re-Opening Campus Adequate campus preparation must take place prior to reopening our school facility. Education/Training for Faculty/Staff The education and training of staff in new health protocols is essential to ensure proper health screening and practices. COVID-19 protocols will be shared by administration and/or safety committee via in-services and training sessions. Both virtual as well as in person. Parent communication is essential during these times. Before re-opening school, we will • Inform parents of opening dates and expectations of returning to school • Post our re-opening plan online and share it with parents. • Keep parents informed of the most current Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and policies that affects our school. Signage • Signage has been installed throughout the building to encourage healthy behaviors for our students and staff. • Instructions on proper hand washing techniques has been posted by every sink. • Every classroom has signage reminding students to keep their masks on for safety. • Signage has been placed on the floor indicating a safe distance where students are required to line up. • Signage has been installed in maintenance/janitorial areas showing proper cleaning and sanitization procedures. • Signage has been installed at all entrances indicating arrival procedures including temperature and security checks. • Signage has been installed indicating proper directions of travel throughout the building. • Temperatures will be checked before students will be allowed to exit vehicles. Cleaning, Sanitizing, and Installation • Campus has been cleaned and sanitized for the 2021-2022 school year. • School has purchased cleaning supplies for sanitizing and has a stockpile for daily use. • Maintenance personnel will conduct thorough building inspections each morning. • Hand sanitizing stations has been installed throughout the common areas and in each classroom • Janitorial staff will daily clean and disinfect high-contact surfaces in offices and classrooms such as handrails, door handles, doorknobs, and restrooms. • Cleaning staff will ensure that hand sanitizing stations are refilled on a regular basis Page | 4
The School Day Student and Staff Arrival In order to maintain physical distancing of students during morning arrival, we • Conduct temperature check for students and staff at every point of entry. • Only allow students and GMAA employees to enter the building. • For the school’s security, bag searches will continue to be conducted. Preventing the Spread It is imperative that all members of our school community follow these guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by washing your hands frequently, maintaining a physical distance of six feet, staying home if you are sick, and wearing a mask in public. Mask Policy All school community (including visitors) will be required to wear masks that fully cover the mouth and nose while on campus, except while eating or actively engaged in sports activities. Physical Distance This school re-opening plan attempts to mitigate risk by maintaining physical distancing between students and limiting interaction between different student groups. Students are expected to observe physical distancing guidelines while on campus. Page | 6
