Springfield is a proud member of the PRSD Family Merry December Springfield Family! As the festive season is upon us, I want to wish you a very warm, loving wish of happy times with your family and friends that is full of joy and wonder for your little ones. I do so love this time of the year where we sing songs with our students, have the magic of our elf on the shelf, and there is such a feeling of helpfulness and giving from our students. It warms the cockles of my heart to know that our students think of those less fortunate, are thinking of their friends, and excited to be with their loved ones during the holidays. As we are focussed on giving, I want to invite you all in for our Christmas concert on December 19th. We have a morning and an afternoon show for parents or family. We do ask that as you come and stay for the whole performance if at all possible. We have quite a few of our kids who cannot have a member of their family to perform for, so their friends’ families fill that role - you are an important part of their community. On that note, I would invite you to share your heart and thoughts with us - you and your family’s ideas and thoughts are what students bring with them as part of their identity. It is an important part of our school’s identity. There are a few ways to share with us - we have a school council that meets approximately once a month. This is purely for sharing ideas with myself and the vice-principal on improvements or things to maintain that are working well. If you do want to volunteer for anything, please contact your child’s teacher or the office. We are always looking for someone to read with students, to help make playdough, to help with hot lunches, to help with book fair, etc. If you would just like to talk with someone about ideas, please contact your child’s teacher or a member of the school council to bring to one of our meetings to discuss. Your thoughts, ideas, help, etc. are always welcome at Springfield as this is your family’s school. Our teachers are your partners in being the adults in your child’s life. And as the Whos in Whoville sing, with no presents or trees or turkeys or tinsel of any sort - “Welcome Christmas, bring your light” Wishing you a light-filled holiday season with your loved ones. From your friendly, neighbourhood principal - Sarah Bergeron December 2019
Springfield is a proud member of the PRSD Family Have Your Say on the Divisional School Calendar In December, we will invite members of our school communities to review and provide input on the proposed 2020-2021 Divisional School Calendar for Peace River School Division. We welcome and encourage input from our families, staff and community members to help us develop our divisional school calendar, reflecting the needs of our school communities. All input received regarding the proposed 2020-2021 Calendar will be reviewed by the PRSD Calendar Committee that consists of a parent, teacher, principals, management and representatives from neighbouring school boards. Input from our school communities will be reviewed and considered as the committee collaboratively develops a calendar for the PRSD Board of Trustees’ consideration. The Board of Trustees will review the calendar and input as collected, and then it will be presented to the board for their approval at the March 2020 board meeting. Please watch for more information on how to share your input on the school calendar in the upcoming weeks. We will share more details through newsletters, websites, email and social media. This is an excellent opportunity for our families and school communities to be involved in decision making on a school and divisional level, and we thank you in advance for your input. Paul Bennett Superintendent of Schools Peace River School Division No. 10 December 2019

Springfield is a proud member of the PRSD Family Ecole Springfield School is very excited to have started a lunch hour culture club with grade four students one day a week. The aim of the club is to learn more about First Nations, Metis and Inuit culture as well as to meet new friends and have some fun. Mrs. Swartz and Mrs. McNabb are leading the group which originally had been planned for all grades from 1 -4. However, the Grade four response has been so great that we needed to split the grade into four different groups. Each group will have a six week session consisting of different activities. Last week students learned a bit about Metis history and participated in an arm wrestling competition. Mrs. McNabb and Mrs. Swartz were very surprised to realize how strong some of our group members were. They must be working out at home! The Holiday Season is upon us! I have been busy with Second Step and Kimochis in all the classrooms. We have been lots of work on Empathy and kindness. I am excited to share we have also started our mentoring program in coordination with Peace High. We have 20 mentors coming to our school Thursday mornings, spending time with various students. Students chosen to take party were generally students new to Springfield who could benefit from an extra connection. A couple of students who took part last year are also involved again this year.. The mentoring program is designed as a 1-1 time with an older friend, where they can play games and spend time talking. The mentor is both a confidente and a role model to their younger friends. If you have any questions, please let me know. This time of year can be both exciting and overwhelming. Springfield is a proud member of the PRSD Family PRSD December Safety Message – Personal Safety As the holiday season approaches, so too do the demands on our families, ourselves and on our time. It is a busy time of year that can sometimes be overwhelming and we need to do our best to maintain balance in our lives and consider safety factors. Both adults and children can feel stress during the holiday season. Keep in mind what is important during this time of year – the enjoyment of fellowship and celebrating with family and friends. Remember to take time to reflect and rest. Holiday preparations often involve much lifting, moving and organizing. It is important that everyone be mindful of proper lifting techniques and be aware of surface hazards when bustling about. Ensure that electrical outlets are not overloaded and extension cords are in good condition and position. Ladder safety should be practiced when hanging decorations and walkways and driveways kept clear for winter visitors. Alberta Health Services has prepared an all season injury prevention and safety suggestion guide for families. Many great tips can be found at https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/injprev/Page4838.aspx We wish you a safe and happy holiday season! Safety Advisory Committee Thank you to Darren Weaver (our own Sharleen Canning's cousin) owner of Weaver Group Ltd for their $1000 donation to our Food Program! December 2019
