Thursday, May 27 - G Day Friday, May 28 - H Day 12:00 5th Grade KC Club 4:00 Math Team Competition Monday, May 31 - No School - Memorial Day Meredith Hill Families, We have had a wonderful week of learning at Meredith Hill this week!. Thank you for your ongoing partnership as we continue with both remote and hybrid learning models. Regardless of learning model, it clearly shows that all scholars are engaged in high-quality learning that builds toward a bright future. It's been exciting to see scholars both on Zoom and in-person tackle challenging and rewarding tasks that peak their interests. Student Led Conferences (SLC) were this past Thursday and Friday. Please contact your teacher to book an appointment for your child for SLCs through Bookings if you need to reschedule or have missed your SLC appointment. As we have done in the past, we will have a ra e for families who attend SLCs. Please make sure your teacher has taken your attendance for your SLC so your name will be submitted into the ra e. Here are a couple reminders as we gear up for next week: Panorama Survey for 3-5 grade is open. We will be taking the Panorama Survey during class time. This important survey gives voice to scholars so we can obtain feedback about how we are doing. Please contact your teacher with questions. Wednesdays are school days and attendance is taken. Please have your child complete the teacher-assigned tasks posted on Canvas. As a general daily recommendation, scholars should spend at least 30 minutes completing iReady reading lessons; 30 minutes completing iReady math lessons; and 20-45 minutes reading on myON, ARC Bookshelf, or other books at their reading level. It is highly recommended that scholars also spend 15-30 minutes writing about their day or their reading. Health screening (hybrid only) is a daily requirement for scholars who come to school in- person. Please make sure we have your correct email address in ParentVue, so you receive the screener. You can sign up for daily text messages with the screener link when you do the screener. In partnership, Helen Babbin, Principal Meredith Hill Elementary 253.945.3205

Scholars can re ect on what is going well, their strengths, and what are the next steps to becoming more successful in the subjects that challenge them. Do they need to have more courage to raise their hand and ask questions? Do they need to rethink their daily routines to stay focused? Do they need to go to bed earlier, so they are better rested? Self-re ection can be challenging, especially when we are re ecting on the things we need to improve on. We may experience emotions of discouragement, embarrassment, disappointment, or frustration. All these emotions are normal and OK! How we respond to them is what really matters. It is important to not get stuck in those emotions, ask for help, and stay solution focused! I encourage you to encourage your scholar to self-re ect and to not get set stuck in those negative emotions. Support your scholar in moving past negative emotions and start thinking about solutions. And while they are self-re ecting on the things they need to improve on, do not forget to celebrate the successes and the growth!! It has been one of the most challenging years for all of us and all the growth and success needs to be recognized and celebrated! Our school’s Battle of the Book competition will be on Wednesday, May 5th at 3:30 p.m. You can join the event by clicking on Mrs. Lunde’s Zoom link, which can be found on her Canvas page. There are some guidelines to be aware of since this is a virtual event: · Participants’ cameras should remain on throughout the competition, but observers should have their cameras and microphones off. · Participants should mute their microphones in the main room and unmute in breakout rooms. · Participants may have a list of the book titles to refer to, but may not look up anything in the actual books or use notes during the competition. · If possible, observers should attend using a separate device than the participant. · Observers may not help in any way. The winning team will represent our school at the Federal Way District competition scheduled for Thursday, May 20th. (Time to be determined.) We Need Your Help! Please slow down when driving on campus. We have young people here and need everyone to help keep them safe. Safety First! Safe Walking Tips At Federal Way Public Schools scholar safety is a number one priority. With school heading back to in-person learning, all drivers, scholars and families are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings as they travel to and from school. It’s important to note school zones are in place to alert drivers, save lives, and prevent serious injuries near schools. Drivers are encouraged to take the following precautions on roads, especially around schools: Slow down and be alert to the actions of pedestrians and other drivers. Pay attention to and abide by the speed limit, which in school zones is 20 miles per hour. Be alert for children in school zones. Never pass a vehicle stopped for pedestrians.
Reduce tra c congestion and keep children visible. Do not double-park, stop in crosswalks, or interfere with school buses in the bus loading area of a school. Safe walking tips for students include: Discuss a safe route to and from school. Teach children to stop at the curb and look both ways before crossing the street. When crossing, walk, do not run, and keep an eye out for turning vehicles. If your child rides a bike, skateboard or roller blades, always wear helmets and protective clothing; put re ectors on your bike and shoes. Stay on a walking route approved by parents and go directly to and from school (scholars will be expected to walk home immediately after dismissal). It takes all of us — the greater Federal Way community — to ensure each scholar’s safe arrival to school. Thank you for doing your part. Online Kindergarten Registration Continues!
