Noted Providence Grads THE MARLINS BAND ROBERT “BOTS” (’70), RICK (‘74”), GARY (‘66), AND JACE And retired member Jack (‘62) The Marlins are known throughout our metropolitan area and numerous cities in Florida, Arizona, Nevada and across the nation. Robert “Rob” Marlin (‘90), Bots’s son, is well known as a founding member of the local band “Rumors.”
Military Grad And The Ultimate Sacrifice Sgt. THOMAS “TOM” J. GETTELFINGER – PHS 1966 Tom was a good student, fun-loving and caring of others. Deployed to South Vietnam in 1970. On a helicopter rescue mission he was shot down on April 15, 1971. He was 22 years of age. Thank you for your service, Tom Vietnam Memorial Wall, Panel W4, Line 126 – “Thomas J. Gettelfinger”
Military Grad And The Ultimate Sacrifice U.S. Air Force Senior Airman EARL F. “J.R.” CARTRETTE – PHS 1992 In Saudi Arabia on June 25, 1996, J.R. was one of 19 Americans killed by a terrorist fuel truck explosion at King Abdul Aziz Air Base in Kohbar, near Dhahran. He was 22 years of age. Thank you for your service, J.R. “Known as a practical joker, J.R. kept times in Saudi light-hearted,” wrote a fellow serviceman.
ACADEMIC ACOLADES Many awards students earn are named for teachers. Sister Joseph Louise Mathematics Achievement Award Awarded every year since 1966. She was head of the Math and Science Department during her 10 years at Providence, 1955-1965
ACADEMIC ACOLADES Many awards students earn are named for teachers. Ms. Norma Reynolds Chemistry Award Ms. Reynolds served PHS for 21 years (1968-1989) in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. Award has been given annually since 1990. Seniors often refer to it as “The Norma.”
ACADEMIC ACOLADES Many awards students earn are named for teachers. Mrs. Karen Benham Memorial English Award She served for 27 years, leaving in 1999 due to illness. The Award was established in 2008 and awarded annually to a graduating senior whose love for literature and language is evident in both written and verbal work. Mrs. Benham died of cancer in 2001

Mrs. Kathleen Polansky Theology Award Ms. Polansky came to Providence in 1981 and served in Theology Department until her retirement in 2011. Presented annually to a graduating senior, it was created in 2012 to honor her 30-year career at Providence.

Ms. Judith Manning Social Studies Award Named for Ms. Jude Manning, (Hon.Alum.’16), a long time Social Studies teacher – from 1983 to 2019. Ms. Manning’s love of “all things History” and her enthusiasm for teaching have inspired students for 30 years. The Award was established in 2013
ACADEMIC ACOLADES Many awards students earn are named for teachers. Mr. Don Zipp “Blue Pride” Award Mr. Don Zipp, (Hon.Alum.’12) served 37 years teaching Government, Economics, Current Problems. When he retired in 2012, He was made an “Honorary Alumni of PHS” and the school’s Blue Pride Award (originated in 2009) was renamed the Don Zipp Blue Pride Award in his honor. Mr. Zipp was also Athletic Director from 1994 through 2004.
