ILEARN Testing Starting Monday, April 19th students at KIS will be starting the ILEARN testing. Not all students will be testing every day; the schedule of what grade levels are testing is listed below. Teachers and students have been working hard all year for these exams and there are a couple of things that can be done each day to help: 1. Being Active – exerting some energy and having some fun the night before the test. 2. Get a good night’s rest! 3. Eating a good dinner and breakfast! 4. Be positive and encourage your student(s) to do the best that they can. 5. Attendance, these days are very important. We do have make up times available, but it is very beneficial for students to take exams when scheduled. 6. Students will be using their chrome books to test. It is very important that these are fully charged each evening and that students bring them daily. Freshman Scheduling: Much thanks to all 8th graders and their parents for returning the “Freshman Course Request” form to Mrs. Gulley, KIS School Counselor, by the deadline of Friday, March 13th. If your 8th grader has not yet turned in this important form, please have them do so. Indiana Career Explorer Accounts: Mrs. Gulley encourages parents to have their 8th graders share and navigate through their personalized Indiana Career Explorer Accounts at www.indianacareerexplorer.com. Indiana Career Explorer is a great place to list plans for after high school, research careers and much more. If you need any help, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Gulley, KIS School Counselor at 345-5165. High School Four-Year Plan Mrs. Gulley has met with all 8th graders to establish a four (4) year Graduation Plan. Understand this “Excel” four-year high school plan is just that, a plan. It is not set. Its purpose is to simply get 8th grade students to begin thinking about their career objectives to assist them in choosing appropriate high school electives. If parents would like a copy of this Excel form sent
electronically via email, just give Mrs. Gulley a call. It serves as a useful tool for families to use throughout high school planning. Twenty-First Century Scholars Current 7th & 8th graders may apply now. Registration must occur no later than June 30th of a student’s 8th grade year. Apply online at Scholars.IN.gov or contact Mrs. Gulley at 345-5455. This means for this year’s 8th graders the deadline is June 30, 2021. Social-Emotional Support During this pandemic, teens are being asked to stay physically distant and change the way they attend school, interact with peers, and pursue sports/extracurricular events. This uncertainty and stress are impacting both the physical and mental health of our youth. Mrs. Gulley, KIS School Counselor, and Mr. Burris, KIS/KHS Behavioral Specialist, want parents to know they are here for your children. If you are in need of consult, behavior management or any type of social/emotional support for your child, feel free to contact the school office and request their assistance.
