6 | 12TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME | JUNE 20, 2021 WHAT’S THIS? THE CONFITEOR (I CONFESS) I CONFESS TO ALMIGHTY GOD and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, (striking one’s breast) through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. PART 1 of 5 I CONFESS TO ALMIGHTY GOD… In this beginning statement, we acknowledge our transgressions and in humility, recognize their consequence in our relationship with our true and glorious God. Pope Francis: “When, at the beginning of Mass, we say: ‘I confess,’ it’s not something pro forma. It’s a real act of penance.” Individually and publicly, we take responsibility for our sins. …AND TO YOU, MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS… Here is an opportunity to think carefully about all those in our lives; family members, friends, coworkers and neighbors. How have we best related to these individuals; what were occasions for resolving hurts, differences and broken relationships? When we ‘take stock’, what is in our hearts? St. Augustine: “The confession of evil is the first beginning of good works.” NEXT WEEK - THE CONFITEOR - PART 2 of 5 In your charity and prayers, please remember the souls of those who have I. 8 | 12TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME | JUNE 20, 2021 SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL—PART 4 Shortly after last week’s article about the Society’s response to disasters, we learned that Society’s Disaster Services division was named the National Volunteer Organization Active in Disasters (VOAD) member of the year. VOAD consists of 73 volunteer organizations that are active in responding to disasters and includes such other organizations as the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, and Catholic Charities. Turning now to the present Conference at St. John Vianney, it dates back to the mid-1970s. We presently have 14 Active members and 5 Associate members. Active members attend our twice monthly meetings and participate in our activities on a regular basis. Associate members are those upon whom we can call to help us as needs arise. We have a dedicated voice mail box where people with needs can leave requests for help. Our Active members monitor this line on a rotating basis. We run the food pantry across from Presentation Hall. During the height of the pandemic, we packed food based on what the pantry users told us they needed and delivered their orders to them curb-side outside the church doors. We are now beginning to again allow people to come into the pantry and do their own shopping. We help people with utility bills, prescriptions, rent payments, car repairs, and vouchers. With a voucher, people can acquire beds, furniture, clothing, and additional goods from our stores at no cost to them. We place people who are temporarily homeless at the Comfort Inn in Waukesha. We work with landlords to help avert evictions. We have referral lists of potential landlords and low-cost housing options for those in need of housing. We work with and through social workers at Catholic Charites in Waukesha to help us in dealing with some of those who come to us and in some cases refer people directly to Catholic Charities for counseling. We help at the evening meal program run on Mondays by the SVdP in Waukesha, at the Milwaukee SVdP South Side nightly meal program whenever there is a 5th Wednesday in a month, and we coordinate the parish participation in the Milwaukee SVdP North Side evening meal program through an associate member of our conference who also belongs to the Hands of Christ Conference located at the Milwaukee South Side meal site. We are cognizant that ours is a Gospel based mission and that our goal is to strengthen our own spiritual growth by seeing Christ in those we serve and letting them reflect Christ back to us. We do, however, need and are grateful for your financial support so we can continue to help people in need. In our most recent fiscal year your contributions allowed us to provide $38,732.86 of help to people in need and an additional $7,595.00 to other St. Vincent de Paul programs that serve the poor, including providing help to the SVdP conference at San Isadro parish in Azua, Dominican Republic with which we twin and which two of our conference members have visited. We’ll conclude this series with a brief description of the needs we’ve recently addressed. SUMMER POPSICLE PLAYDATES Join us for a fun, “getting to know you” playdate for all incoming early childhood and primary students to St. John Vianney school (K3-2nd grade) and their parents. Older siblings are welcome, too. The kids will be able to play on the Norhardt playground, meet new friends and enjoy popsicles while parents have the opportunity to meet and chat with one another. If there is inclement weather, the playdate will be rescheduled, and you will be notified of the new date by email. · Tuesday, June 22 from 2:30-3:30 PM · Thursday, July 8 from 5:00-6:00 PM · Tuesday, August 12 from 9:00-11:00 AM If you have any questions, please reach out to Kate McRae at katem@stjohnv.org or Kellie Van Rixel at kellievr@stjohnv.org.

MY SJV FAMILY People in the Buss Family: Nic Buss, Kaitlyn (formerly Paris), Cecilia Paris (8, almost 9), and Madelynn Buss (3). We love being a part of SJV because it feels like home. Being new to a school community can be a difficult transition, especially during a pandemic, but we have felt welcomed from day one. Kaitlyn attended SJV from 4 th-8th grade and has wonderful memories and still keeps in contact with friends made and is blessed to be able to provide that same experience to Cece. We are extremely happy to be a part of this SJV family! Our favorite holiday/Mass is the Easter Triduum. Specifically, Easter Vigil is a wonderful Mass to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus that everyone should attend at least once. Nic and Kaitlyn volunteer in fast food at the festival every year and have also participated with Angel Tree in the past. We are eager to volunteer with school and athletic events once we are able to do so. A special family tradition of ours is apple picking at Elegant Farmer every year and making applesauce with our fresh apples!
