Women’s Club News Submitted by Kathy Bourgault The Women’s Club met on August 8, 2023 at the clubhouse with 29 in attendance. The program was a musical journey performed by Amanda Rose. Amanda provided an entertaining variety of songs and story telling including music from the 50’s, classic country, Broadway tunes, patriotic music and so much more. Amanda was pleased that many audience members joined her in song as she performed some of their favorites. A rousing trivia game of TV games show theme songs was held. The competi- tion was fierce (and fun!) as audience members remembered many of these theme songs. Ms. Rose has been performing in dinner theaters, professional theater companies and has performed in NYC with Broadway Youth Ensemble. Donations were collected and presented to Amanda, a high school senior, as she embarks on her college journey this fall. The entertainment, refreshments and socializing with neighbors was enjoyed by all. Next Meeting: The Holiday meeting will be on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 1:00pm. The Women’s Club has chosen to provide a service project along with a few other surprises on the agenda. Party refreshments, coffee and tea will be provided, BYOB optional. The service project will be: Meadows Women’s Club Holiday Purse Project for homeless women in our community Collection Period: August through October Purse Collection will be at the Women’s Club Celebration on Tuesday, November 7th Club members that would like to participate will provide a gently used or new purse or tote bag filled with small packages of the following ideas: Tissues Hand sanitizer Small or travel size lotions, body wash, shampoo Toothpaste, toothbrush, mouth wash Deodorant, body soap, wash cloths Sanitary pads or Tampons Socks, hats, scarf, gloves, mittens Comb, brush, hair ties Hand warmers Chap stick, lipstick Baby wipes Any other hygiene or personal products 4 Meadows of Lake Ridge

Stitch and Knit So, here we are in the month of September. Hoping your summer is going well and you are taking advantage of the nicer days. Soon, Autumn will arrive, and summer will be a memory. We still have the rest of hurricane season to get through, but hopefully, we will survive any storms. Now is the time to contemplate cooler weather and consider people who are in need of warmer clothing and accessories. We are very happy to report that our containers are full of items for the people of Appalachia and in another month, we will be boxing up the items to be sent to Kentucky. The ladies are also busily crocheting and knitting soap sacks so we will be ready for the community Holiday Baskets. We start early as we need about 50 and we want to be ready. Some of you have asked about the lap blankets for Veterans. There is still time to donate one if anyone is so inclined. Though red, white, and blue are the favorite colors, any colors are wonderful. The size for the lap blankets is approximately 36”-38” X 38”-40”. The Veterans appreci- ate them so much and they brighten up their days. Frank, from the VNA Hospice Unit, is our contact and we will be inviting him to visit our group and to donate what we have. We plan a late September or early October meet. He has always been very gracious and appreciative of everyone’s efforts to help. So, Happy Labor Day and may all be safe and well as we begin another fall season. 8 Meadows of Lake Ridge
Card Fronts and More Sudoku Cancelled stamps for Veterans, poptops for Ron- ald McDonald House, and card fronts are still being collected. PLEASE NOTE: Cards are not accepted from American Greetings, Hallmark, Disney due to copyright issues; and cards with designs or writing on the back of the card fronts are not accepted either. Cards are collected all year round and may be from any holidays as well. Toiletries are still collected that you receive on trips. At present, they are collecting in my garage as the person I give them to is ill with cancer. As soon as she can advise me as to how to get them to another person, I will. Thank you for your kindness. Our ECW (Epis- copal Church Women) from St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church appreciates your help which in turn helps many others.
