WELCOME Welcome to our new look Film Guide. Here, at the Arts Centre we are trying to make the most of the selection of great films that there are out there. In this guide we have Breakfast Movies which includes a lovely hot drink and delicious pastry, we have some films with added activities such as Hocus Pocus, and films for the more adventurous viewer like Generation Wealth and Arcadia. We always welcome feedback on the film choices, if you have any comments or reviews, do send them to info@bridport-arts.com Curtis Fulcher, Director RELAXED SCREENING Relaxed film screenings designed for those on the PRICES autism spectrum, their family and carers or for £6 Adult anyone who finds a normal screening somewhat restrictive. OCTOBER THURSDAY 4 Dunkirk (12) | 2017 | 1h 46m | 11:00 AM DIRECTED BY | Christopher Nolan STARRING | Fionn Whitehead, Barry Keoghan, Mark Rylance May/June 1940. 400,000 British and French soldiers are holed up in the French port town of Dunkirk. The only way out is via sea, and the Germans have air superiority, bombing the British soldiers and ships without much opposition. The situation looks dire and, in desperation, Britain sends civilian boats in addition to its hard-pressed navy to try to evacuate the beleaguered forces. This is that story, seen through the eyes of a soldier amongst those trapped forces, two RAF fighter pilots and a group of civilians on their boat, part of the evacuation fleet. THURSDAY 4 Oceans 8 (12A) | 2018 | 1h 50m | 7.30 PM DIRECTED BY | Gary Ross STARRING | Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway The plot follows Debbie (Sandra Bullock) who is out of prison. She plans her next heist of stealing a diamond necklace that has not been seen by the public’s eye. She needs the help from Lou (Cate Blanchett), Amita (Mindy Kaling), Tammy (Sarah Paulson), Constance (Awkwafina), Nine Ball (Rihanna), and Rose (Helena Bonham Carter). The team will try to use a fashion model Daphne (Anne Hathaway) to sponsor in wearing the diamond necklace at a fashion event. THURSDAY 11 On Chesil Beach (15) | 2017 | 1h 50m | 11.00 AM DIRECTED BY | Dominic Cooke STARRING | Saoirse Ronan, Emily Watson, Anne-Marie Duff Billy Howle, Adrian Scarborough, Samuel West Adapted by Ian McEwan from his bestselling novel, the drama centres on a young couple of drastically different backgrounds in the summer of 1962.

When David Nicholas Wilkinson started working on the film in 2016, many people advised him to make a ‘Soft Brexit’ film, not a ‘Stop Brexit’ one. By the time he finished shooting his last scenes as late as May 2018 however, the ‘Stop Brexit’ message did not seem quite so fanciful. There was just one Q&A WITH THE rule on the film: everyone involved in the production had to have voted Remain. Set to a grand, expressive new score from Adrian Utley (Portishead) and Will Gregory (Goldfrapp) alongside folk music from the likes of Anne Briggs, Wright’s captivating film essay captures the beauty and brutality of rural Britain. THURSDAY 22 Calamity Jane (U) | 1953 | 1h 41m | 11.00 AM DIRECTED BY | David Butler STARRING | Doris Day, Howard Keel, Allyn Ann McLerie Dressed head-to-toe in fringed buckskin, Doris Day is tomboy in excelsis as sharp-shootin’ ‘Calam’ in this riposte to MGM’s Annie Get Your Gun. TUESDAY 11 Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella 2018 | 7.30 PM FROM SADLERS WELLS Matthew Bourne’s interpretation of the classic fairy tale, has, at its heart, a true war-time romance. A chance meeting results in a magical night for Cinderella and her dashing young RAF pilot, together just long enough to fall in love before being parted by the horrors of the Blitz. With Lez Brotherston’s sumptuous costumes and sets, which won an Olivier Award for his original designs, and lighting by Olivier Award-winning Neil Austin, Cinderella will be performed in surround sound, designed by Paul Groothuis, with video and projection design by Duncan McLean and featuring a specially commissioned recording played by a 60 piece orchestra. THURSDAY 20 White Christmas (U) | 1954 | 1h 55m | 2.00 PM Includes a hot drink and mince pie DIRECTED BY | Michael Curtiz STARRING | Rosemary Clooney, Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Vera Ellen Two talented song-and-dance men (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye) team up after the war to become one of the hottest acts in show business. One winter, they join forces with a sister act (Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen) and head to Vermont for a white Christmas. Upon discovering that the resort is run by their old army general, who’s now in FREE HOT DRINK financial trouble, they decide to put on a benefit to raise & MINCE PIE funds. White Christmas is a treasury of Irving Berlin classics, among them Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep, Sisters, Blue Skies, and, of course, White Christmas itself.
