Linda Moore Guest Director Director Linda Moore has recently stepped down from her position as Artistic Director of Halifax's Neptune Theatre after 10 years. She directed Jennie's Story for UVic in the 95/96 Season. Some Neptune directing highlights include The Government Inspector, Hamlet, The Member of the Wedding, Dracula... a Chamber Musical, The Gospel at Co/onus, Angels in America, An Inspector Calls, Romeo and Juliet, Les Miserables, Fiddler on the Roof, The Real Thing, Dancing at Lughnasa, The Winslow Boy, Memoir, Memories of You, and Safe Heaven. For the Neptune Studio Series she directed Jest In Time Meet Beckett with the Jest In Time physical theatre company, part of which was remounted for the University of Victoria Beckett Festival in 1996. Linda Moore has been a guest director/instructor at the National Theatre School of Canada, and she has directed at many other theatres across Canada including The Belfry, The Citadel, The Centaur, and The Manitoba Theatre Centre where she was Artistic Associate for two years. Last summer she directed the hit play Stolen Lives - the Story of Albert Walker for the Blyth Festival and will return there this summer to direct The Passion of Narcisse Mondeux. In 1997, Ms. Moore received an honorary Doctor of Letters from St. Mary's University. Director's Notes "We three can live a little out of time" - Richard II. Within a year, Robert de Vere was dead, and within two, Anne of Bohemia had died of the plague. Seven years later, Richard II was imprisoned and ultimately murdered by Henry Bolingbroke who became Henry IV - ending the reign of the Plantagenets. Minghella creates an imaginative rendezvous for these three characters, in the midst of the Feast of Corpus Christie when all of the Guilds of York are preparing their annual cycle of plays. But their escape to York does not go unnoticed. "The King stir up nonsense in the town. Each fears disfavour, each outwits himself so as not to be outwitted by others. So 'tis a town on a sudden of no wits, no beds and a thousand wipes". With this observation, Walter Paynter sums up the chaos and clamoring for advancement that invades the town during the King's visit. As with all good satire, Minghella holds up a mirror that illuminates the follies of human nature and uses the play's circumstances to examine power and station. We recognize our own world in the play. Finally and simply, he shows us the triumph of meaning over empty pomp and spectacle.
