Who are ? We are Not Too Tame; a multi award winning theatre company working in ensemble to make work aimed at those who feel theatre isn’t for them. We produce immersive, site specific work that breaks the boundaries of tame, polite theatre to create unique productions that combine quality work with a brilliant night out! Our work celebrates regional identity, champions Community and feels like a gig. Cross pollinating audiences and forging relationships between traditional theatre buildings and pubs, clubs and music venues, Not Too Tame challenges the preconceptions of what theatre should be and who it is for. Our Mission To make raucous, highly crafted shows that are steeped in working class culture, using working class voices. Our Vision A #TheatreForAll, where highly crafted theatre is an accessible first choice night out for working class audiences and where a career in theatre is a viable option for any working class child. Our work is unique, exhilarating and bold, giving an audience the 360 degree experience. This is what we call SESH THEATRE*. * ‘Sesh’ (short for session). The process of excessive enjoyment of entertainment with a group of friends, sometimes people you don’t even know. This normally occurs in a pub, club, gig venue or even theatre. The 'sesh' usually includes the consumption of alcohol and a healthy dose of live music, which may result in outrageous dancing and even karaoke. The sesh typically ends when the sun rises, however, can continue for as long as your body lets you...or until you get kicked out. Grab pint, take a seat and get a load of this! "Our work guarantees to entertain, but we also explore the socially relevant everyday dilemmas of modern Britain. We want to be known as the Jimmy McGovern and Quentin Tarantino’s of Theatre. If people don’t see their own stories on stage, or hear their voices, then how do they know that their opinion matters, that they matter? It’s important that we feel we’re visible, that we’re being heard. NTT is not competing with other theatre offers, we’re competing with Facebook and Netflix, people graft hard for their money so we need to deliver the goods in live experience and value for money - and we do. An unforgettable night out with friends that doesn’t break bank.“ Jimmy Fairhurst - Artistic Director

What People Say… DERBY THEATRE “NTT are the experts in reaching new audiences in diverse socioeconomically demographics. They make work which is artistically excellent and accessible and uncovers unheard voices. We are proud to continue our support of NTT and their ambitions” Sarah Brigham, Chief Executive & Artistic Director PAINES PLOUGH Not Too Tame make unruly plays in surprising spaces with joyous impunity. Their work is vibrant, vital and hugely entertaining. They are a force to be reckoned with, a blast of energy and invention and ambition committed to making theatre for people who might think theatre is not for them and deliver shows that feel like rock n roll gigs. We think they are brilliant, and important, and we will continue to support them, work with them, learn from them and enjoy their productions as enthusiastic audience members. James Grieve – Previous Joint Artistic Director CREATIVE SCENE “It was a joy to work with Not Too Tame to bring Early Doors to pubs across North Kirklees. They understand the work that goes into building new audiences and are passionate in engaging people who might not otherwise go to the theatre. Over the course of their week with us we saw sceptical punters become vocal advocates of the show; travelling between towns to see the show again and bringing their mates with them. This is testament to a company that knows their audience and has created a lively, relevant and touching night at the pub. Landlords across the run were thrilled with the attendance and response and we now have an excited network of venues and punters to continue working with in the future. We couldn’t have found a better company to launch this new touring network.” Vicky Holliday, Creative Producer, Creative Scene
What People Say… THE LOWRY “We were delighted to welcome Not Too Tame to Salford and really pleased that they attracted a new audience to The Lowry with a huge 60% of the overall audience being first time bookers. We believe that the integration of the work in the community appealed to those who had previously believed that theatre was not for them. The audience response was really positive and we’re looking forward to their return to Salford for the Roundabout programme in September.” Matthew Eames, Senior Theatre programmer & Producer HARROGATE THEATRE “After seeing Early Doors at Edinburgh Festival, I am very keen to programme this work for Harrogate Theatre’s 2’s Company Festival 2015. The show is a rare gem - both moving, funny, vibrant and full of energy. By programming this piece, I have no doubt it will appeal to a broad audience in a non-traditional theatre space. What is exciting about it for us in particular, is that it will engage those audiences who may not associate themselves with our theatre - and shows them what storytelling at the heart of theatre can and should do.” Emma McDowell, Head of Marketing & Audience Development TORIA GARBUTT Spoken Word artist, currently opening for Dr John Cooper Clarke. NTT is the first theatre company to have grabbed my attention and held my interest. There is a very organic creative relationship between us which I think stems from our shared artistic ethos and vision and I am incredibly excited by the potential to further collaborate and develop our ideas. This is not prescriptive theatre for the privileged elite. This is the kind of raw, boundary pushing high energy experience that grabs you by the balls, pulls you right into the centre of the action and forces you to think. In a time of intense political and social unrest, Not Too Tame provide an opportunity to escape the bullshit and remember what's important; camaraderie, connection and crucially, hope. These are kitchen sink tales that touch the heart, fire the spirit and remind us what it is to be human.
What the boozers think… HARROGATE Hales Bar – “It was such a pleasure to host Not Too Tame at Hales Bar. The show was thoroughly enjoyed by myself, the staff team, locals & the guests I invited. I also spoke with many of the audience at the time, all of whom were impressed with the performance & gave great positive feedback. The cast were all amazing & the experience ran smoothly Theatrical from start to finish, theTrailer Audience Response show itself cleverly incorporating humour & sadness. Evening shows sold out and we saw an average 55% increase to our bar takings.” Amanda J Wilkinson, Licensee SALFORD The Royal Oak Pub - “Early Doors was an excellent event for the pub and produced very high sales figures for the weekend. Everyone at the pub and the brewery thought it was great success, and would encourage more of the same. The show brought in substantial numbers of new faces to the pub. The fact that the tickets were sold through The Lowry meant that this was inevitable and that many people travelled some distance to see the play. Few of the locals actually attended the performances though several commented that it was great to see the pub so full. We need to find a way to encourage this audience to visit the pub again, which is not easy. On Thursday and Sunday, receipts more than doubled while on Friday and Saturday they rose about 80%. It was well-worth doing. We would certainly host a similar function again.” George Forrest, Licensee HARLOW The Shark “We’ve never had anything like this at our pub, but we are always on the look out for new events and gigs to bring in trade. Genuinely, we couldn’t have picked a better event. Our locals we’re delighted with the company the show itself and we saw a huge amount of new custom come through the door. It was phenomenal show which had everyone laughing, singing, dancing and crying. No one wanted it to end, least of all us as our bar taking were up 85% over the 3 nights. NTT are welcome here anytime.” Charlotte Smith, Licensee
