I want to thank you for all of your patience with the snow and parking lots, it was so much better this week. Our custodial staff comes in early and works hard to remove all of the snow, but with our new process of going to so many doors it has been a challenge. This morning we had both our snow blower and our quad go down, so much of the clearing was done by hand. I did advice the students on morning announcements if their normal path is blocked, take another sidewalk, they would much rather climb the snow mountains. At the McAuliffe household we got a new puppy, so life has been exciting. Bubba loved me being home on the snow day to play outside with him. For BVA families that are returning I will reach out to you once everything is nalized to help you with the transition. I also wanted to mention a tradition we want to bring back. We will now wear Hawkins gear on Mondays and Brighton gear on Fridays to show our school spirit. If you don’t have the proper gear wear black and orange. Staff will be joining in and we encourage our BVA students to do the same. Have a great weekend everyone, still loving being your principal.

WELCOME TO THE COUNSELOR CORNER! This month I will be visiting classrooms to talk about Empathy and standing in the shoes of others. By looking at multiple perspectives we gain a better understanding of how our actions impact others and the world around us. We will discuss how others may feel in a given situation and where they are coming from. This provides an avenue to learn what we can do to best support our family, friends, and peers when they need us most. This tool of empathy is important for effective problem solving, working in a group setting, and having compassion for others. Lets Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed at school. More Resources: The Elementary Counseling Team also has the BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home! 35 Children's Books That Teach Empathy & Kindness Mrs. Fox Hilton & Hawkins Elementary foxra@brightonk12.com
