Grad Checks • Counsellors will review all Grade 12 Transcripts to ensure Grad require- ments will be met by June 2021 • Letters home if: • Courses missing • Provincial assessments missing • Incomplete online courses • Adult Grad
Required Courses Graduation A minimum of 80 credits Required Courses • Language Arts 10, 11 and 12 Requirements 48 credits (or 12 courses) • Social Studies 10; Social Studies Explorations 11 or a senior level Social Elective Courses Studies Elective 28 elective credits (or 7 • Mathematics 10; courses) Mathematics 11 or 12 12 of these credits (or 3 courses) must be at • Science 10; a Science 11 the Grade 12 level • Physical Education 10 Career Life Connections • Fine Arts or Applied 4 credits total between Skills 10, 11 or 12 Grade 11 & 12 • Career Life Education 10
Provincial Assessments • Literacy Assessment • Grade 10 Literacy Assessment not a requirement for class of 2021 • Grade 12 Literacy Assessment has be postponed for class of 2021 • Not a grad requirement this year • Numeracy Assessment • Current grade 12s who have not yet written the Numeracy Assessment MUST write the exam between November 2-6, 2020 • Ms. Nicolidakis will contact you individually to let you know your scheduled exam time

Post-Secondary Admissions Updates for Fall 2021
All graduation requirements met English Studies 12/English FP 12 – 60%* General admission Math 11 or 12 – 60%* requirements - University At least one academic Science 11 (Biology, Physics, Chemistry or Earth Science) At least 4 other approved academic courses at the grade 12 level (minimum 5 for UBC) *Please note that these are minimum requirements, and that accepted averages are typically higher
A grade 11 level second language is required for direct university admission in BC For UBC & SFU, online/distance education courses must be 100% complete by *January 31st, 2021, including final exams! Application Pointers • Get organized! • Gather info you’ll need: PEN, BCeID, marks history, etc. • Know your deadlines and stick to them – no extensions! • Start early, and work in stages • Take your time and be thoughtful, thorough, and accurate • Take note of important information • User names, passwords, application or student number, submission receipts • Keep it all together in a safe place • Use an email address that you check frequently
Application Pointers, cont’d. • Talk to an Admissions Advisor • They can provide useful advice and answer your questions • Get some feedback • If your application requires a profile or personal statement, ask parents, teachers, counsellors, advisors for feedback • Have a back-up plan • Consider second and even third choices, including colleges

FAQs Some of my required courses are in 3rd or 4th Quarter. Do I need to move them so my post-secondary can get my marks on time? • Post-secondaries will use Grade 11 and 12 marks to assess for admissions • Unis know we’re on the quarter system; they have planned admissions accordingly • No students will be disadvantaged for having academics in later quarters I’m applying to universities in Ontario. Is the process different than BC? • Yes! You can apply through the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) here: https://www.ouac.on.ca/ I’m applying to USA universities. What do I need to do? • Create an account with the Common App here: https://www.commonapp.org/ • Make sure that your counsellor and teacher references have a current resumé, and other relevant info Where can I get info about scholarships and deadlines? • Deadlines are not the same as application deadlines • See university websites and see Ms. Mihic for more information
FAQs Where can I get information about my specific institution or program? • University websites are the best place to get up-to-date info about general admissions, scholarships, specific programs, and deadlines • See the next slide or the Student Services web page for links to some virtual post-secondary info sessions Will there be deferred AP Exams, and will the scores be ready in time for admissions? • We are waiting to hear more information about this, so please watch the student bulletin for more info Will my post-secondary program be all online next year? • While many colleges and universities are doing online or blended learning this year, we don’t yet know what next Fall will look like.
