The Spirit of God makes us one in Christ. *Stand in body or spirit PREPARING FOR THE WORD PRELUDE/BRINGING IN THE CHRIST LIGHT RINGING OF THE BELL ANNOUNCEMENTS JOYS AND CONCERNS PRAYER OF THE DAY *CALL TO WORSHIP (responsive) God has made us to be one body with many members. United and uniting. This is our calling. God calls us to share our diverse gifts activated by the one and same Spirit. United and uniting. This is our redemption. God longs for us to be united in love and to reveal the Spirit in our different ways. United and uniting. This is our worship. Let us gather in this hour to offer praise and worship to our Holy God, who challenges us and calls us to create the Beloved Community. *OPENING HYMN Breathe on Me, Breath of God #234 pg. 2
PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) O God, we long to co-create with you the Beloved Community which looks to the common good; gives privilege to all equally, and creates communities which celebrate the humanity and the gifts of all in your Creation. And yet we often focus on our differences or feel envy for another’s gifts. Or perhaps we feel stuck in how to allow the voices of brothers and sisters who do not look like us, love like us, or worship like us be heard. Perhaps we give in to our weariness or discouragement to build with you, O God, the Beloved Community that seems impossible. Give us strength and forgive us as we are reminded that you love us always and that with your help, we can find hope. Amen. WORDS OF ASSURANCE *THE PEACE (responsive) The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. LISTENING FOR THE WORD PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION SCRIPTURE Psalm 36:5-10 Page 443 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 Page 933 John 2:1-11 Page 863 Word of God, Word of Life. Thanks be to God. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
