Phase 1: 100% Distance Learning Addressing the needs of our Health pathway students and teachers. 1) Workforce Development and Health Careers Certification programs 2) Weekly Informational Interviews on zoom with Healthcare providers 3) Medical Terminology online Acellus class for credit 4) Medical Book and Historical Society 5) Kids Care Fest Youtube channel via student medical clubs 6) Virtual Internship using simulation software: Bodyinteract.com and Physiology and Anatomy learning on 3d4medical. 7) Teacher support with curriculum writing time, and materials
Phase 2: 75% Distance Learning and beyond Addressing the needs of our Health pathway students and teachers. 1) Organized job shadows in groups of 6 will be calendered every week to a healthcare venue. Travel in district vans. 2) CPR classes will resume. 3) In person Medical club meetings to facilitate Kids Care Fest planning.
1) Workforce Development and Career Exploration in the Health Pathways A. World of Work Curriculum (funded by GUHSD) provides training for teachers to interject relevant career information into everyday science lessons. A. Student career certification programs using Alison Alison.com offers classes that range from starting and planning your career, to work on your résumé writing skills and your job search skills. Health classes include nutrition and diet and promoting wellness, while nursing studies centered on patient care and hygiene. A. Student motivation is enhanced because certificates are added to their linkedin account . Help with actual resume writing and one on one interviews is also supported.

2) Informational Interviews via zoom ● A variety of health care providers, industry related workers, administrators, educators and scientists will host weekly informational interviews for interested students on zoom. ● A calendar of Medical and Science guest speakers will be shared with teachers and students via schoology, website and email. Students can join the conversation via the online chat.
3) Medical Terminology online class for credit: Healthcare Essentials A) Students seeking internships will be encouraged to take an online Acellus class. B) 3 credits towards graduation will be given upon completion of the class. C) Virtual Internship preference will be given to those who take the class.
4) Virtual Internships Students within the boundaries of the GHD can apply for an online Medical Pathway internship. The Acellus class: Healthcare Essentials is highly recommended. Additionally taking the certification class: Introduction to Common Medical Conditions would be worthy. Students will submit a cover letter, resume and fill out the application. Once interviewed and selected they will be enrolled in clinic rotations using Body Interact Simulation software. It is used by medical, nursing, EMS and high school students to learn essential workplace skills. Students will share their experiences on weekly zoom meetings and submit their work online. 3 units of credit are earned, and certificates of recognition awarded.
5) Medical Book and Historical Society Health pathway students have the opportunity to join the Medical Book and Historical Society. They will be provided with paper back books to read and reflect upon using the online tool Flipgrid.
YouTube Students will remotely join the Medical Club on their campus. Health Pathway Coordinators and myself will mentor students in the development of a Kids Care Fest YouTube lessons. Lesson design, content and delivery will be monitored to insure high quality work. Videotaping will undergo drafts before uploaded to Youtube. All health topic lessons K-8 will be posted on the Kids Care Fest YouTube channel. When school reopen the possibility of person to person events will be considered. Students earn community service hours.
Medical Curriculum Support for teachers A) Medical Case Studies can be used by teachers to support health pathway learning. B) Take and make lab support so students can have hands on learning while at home. C) World of work curriculum and Career Cruising integration workshop time D) Medical Escape Room workshop E) Medical club assistance for Kids Care Fests
In conclusion: The GHD virtual Health Pathway has many features that can be carried forward post COVID. ● Online Workforce Development ● Medical Book Club ● KidsCare Youtube Channel ● Virtual Internship for credit ● Informational Interviews with Health Care workers Questions? Comments? Suggestions?
