Being School Ready • Getting dressed independently for PE • Can fasten their own shoes (Velcro shoes are best) • To be able to use a knife and fork • To be able to go to the toilet – this includes wiping their own bottom • Can hold a pencil and enjoys mark making • Is starting to count to 20 and is beginning to recognise some numbers • Can recognise their own name • Canspeak clearly and can communicate their wants and needs with adults • Can look after their own belongings

School Uniform • School jumpers can be purchased from the school office • Your child will be given a book bag (provided by Friends of Melton School) • We will take orders for school uniform however we cannot let your child try the uniform on or return it. We have measured our three smallest sized cardigans and jumps for you. • We only sell cardigans and jumpers. • Our school uniform: White polo top (no logo) Grey trousers/shorts Grey skirt/pinafore Grey tights Grey or white socks Green summer dress Black shoes (Velcro are best for Reception)

PE Kit • In Reception we spend the sunny months outside and the winter months inside for PE. • Your child will need, a white top, black shorts, white or black socks, and plimsolls. • Wehave limited space for PE bags so if it is possible to purchase a small PE bag such as a drawstring bag it would help us to store them well. • PEkits stay at school and come home twice a term to be washed. Please check that your child's name is still on their kit after washing. Thank you
Outdoor Wear • In Reception we go outside in all weathers! • Please provide your child with wellington boots. • Please provide your child with wet weather wear, all in one suits are great as its stops mud getting in, or you can get a rain coat and trousers. (any colour) • Please provide spare socks. • You may wish to provide a fleece or extra jumper for the winter months to go under waterproofs in addition to hat and gloves.
Our day • Morning • Maths and Phonics adult-led activities and child-led learning • Afternoon • Child-led learning, adult-led activities and reading • PE • Day to be confirmed
How We Teach Reading • Phonics – This is a mix of letters and sounds with Read Write Inc flash cards • Youwill all be invited to attend a ‘How to teach Phonics’ event in the new school year. • Readingturns – you child will be given two books each week, they will read with a adult at school before getting new books. • Please read at least 3 times a week at home.
Writing • Letter formation – using Read Write Inc sayings • Name writing • Lower case letters to start with (unless beginning of their name) • Mark making • When they start writing encourage them to use their phonics • Pencil control – developing gross and fine motor skills
Maths • Practical activities through play • We work on children's next steps • We have a focus for the week • We learn through songs
Wrap Around Care • We offer a breakfast club and after school club. • Due to the current pandemic we are not currently offering wrap around care. Times and prices will be confirmed in September if wrap around care is available.
Parent Partnership • Seesaw is used for parent communication • Weuse paper Learning Journals, we offer a number of opportunities for you to see these throughout the year. • Parent evenings •Iam always at the door in the morning and at the end of the day for you to talk to, if you need to talk in private please let me know and this can be arranged.
Transition • As school is currently a bit different I will be using Seesaw to help children feel ready for starting school. • You can use Seesaw to contact me with any questions you may have I will send you an email to access your account. • I will post a story once a week for the children to see me and hear my voice. • I will contact you with a telephone appointment time to talk to me about your child starting school. • We cannot yet confirm any arrangements for September. As soon as government guidelines are in place, school will set plans for September. • You will also shortly receive information about Parent Pay. Please sign up for this to buy uniform. • Please keep us informed of any change of contact details.
