A M E S SAGE F ROM OU R PR I E ST S Dear Parishioners, THE EASTER SEASON Firstly a heartfelt “happy Easter” to one and all. I would like to use this column to share a few thoughts on this Season of Easter which last fifty days until Pentecost (a feast who’s very name means the fiftieth day). So, it is a FR. MICH A EL seven week long celebration OPPORTUNITY FOR HOSPITALITY CA RV ILL of the lord’s resurrection. This I am looking for a family who would be willing to offer year I have been particularly hospitality to an Italian high school junior from a great struck by the continual repetition of the antiphon, taken family who supported me during my studies in Italy. The 17 from Psalm 118 “This is the day the lord has made, let us be year old boy has excellent behavior and will be attending glad and rejoice.” Broomfield High or Legacy. The church recognizes in these post resurrection days of Easter the particular appropriateness of these words. Each of these Easter days is a day “made by the Lord”. They are made by the Lord through his passion, death and resurrec- tion. If we were not able to live in the light of this great victory then we would be poor people, without hope and light for living. We would have to live with the notion that evil is stronger than love, and that life is what we make of it. Instead, we live days of light and hope. Christ’s victory assures for those things which we call “The promises of Christ” which are fundamentally the promise of the one hundred fold here on earth and the promise of eternal life. This is what the liturgy means points to these days of Easter as made by the Lord. When we understand this then the second part of The antiphon becomes much more clear and spontaneous. “Let us be glad and rejoice.” Our gladness is borne from the certainty of this gift of hope and positive expectation. The word “gladness” refers not to a freedom from trials but rather to a certainty about the ultimate goodness of our lives. So, these are days of rejoicing. Let us ask that we may “make experience” as the Italians say, of this glad rejoicing by taking the time to steep ourselves in the awareness of the Easter event. In Christ, Fr. Michael
