Liebe Mitglieder!
Ich hoffe, sie sind gesund in den Februar gekommen und haben eine Moeglichkeit die Impfung gegen
den Covit Virus schnellst moeglich zu erhalten. Unser in Ruhestand befindliches militaerisches Per-
sonal kann sich direkt mit der V.A. Klinik am Diplomat Parkway unter der Telefonnummer 727 395-
2400 in Verbindung setzten um einen Impftermin zu bekommen.
Wir selbst werden auch in naechster Zeit keine Vermietungen im Club oder im Garten an
Fremdveranstalter vornehmen gibt es doch auch von Seiten der Stadtverwaltung von Cape Coral bis
zum Ende des Monats keine Erlaubnisse dafuer. Inzwischen werden wir unsere gewohnten Freit-
agsveranstaltungen mit Dinner und Tanz unter Einbehaltung der Abstandsregelung auf der
Tanzflaeche fortsetzen. Ohne die Pandemie wuerden wir auch wieder Karneval oder Fasching, wie es
in Teilen Deutschlands gefeiert wird, bis Aschermittwoch, der auf Mittwoch, den 17. Februar faellt,
feiern.Herzlichen Glueckwunsch an die neuen Ehrenmitglieder, die die 25 jaehrige Mitgliedschaft im
letzten Monat erreicht haben.Meine Familie und ich wuenschen euch allen einen gesunden und froeh-
lichen Valentinstag.

HAFENKAPELLE
The Hafenkapelle has decided to
take the first cautious musical steps
in the new year. In compliance with
the valid safety regulations and distance rules, we will hold a first
rehearsal this year. If the weather permits, the rehearsal takes
place every second Saturday on the dance floor in the beer gar-
den. Not all our musicians can or want to take part, but for all who
will take part it is a reunion after almost a year of standstill. Even if
it is only a small beginning, we are really looking forward to it.
Die Hafenkapelle hat sich entschieden die ersten vorsichtigen,
musikalischen Schritte im neuen Jahr zu machen. Unter
Einhaltung der gültigen Sicherheitsbestimmungen und
Abstandsregeln werden wir eine erste Probe in diesem Jahr
abhalten. Wenn das Wetter es zulässt findet die Probe jeden
zweiten Samstag auf der Tanzfläche des Biergartens statt. Nicht
alle unsere Musiker können oder wollen daran teilnehmen aber für
alle welche teilnehmen werden ist es ein Wiedersehen nach fast
einem Jahr stillstand. Wenn es auch nur ein kleiner Anfang ist
freuen wir uns dennoch schon riesig darauf.

GAME WATCHING PARTIES
Come join us and watch available televised games in the Edelweiss Hall at the Ger-
man American Social Club in Cape Coral. The doors opens 30 minutes prior to kick-
off . Food and drinks available for purchase.
Any groups getting together should observe social distancing and wear masks when
venturing offsides. As always if you are not feeling well or have had a recent exposure
to anyone COVID positive just stay home and get tested ASAP. Failure to comply is a
red card offense.

Sissi, Die Junge Kaiserin – Teil 2
Am 19.1 war es endlich soweit – die Nachfrage war gross, und
insgesamt kamen 15 Mitglieder, um uns den Film Sissi anzuschauen.
Der Film, 1955 gedreht, ist seit jeher beliebt und der ersten in der
Trilogie. Die Szenerie um Tegernsee und Österreich ist wunderschön
anzuschauen. Die Schauspieler Romy Schneider, Karheinz Böhm und
Magda Schneider, gehören zu den Lieblingen der Heimatsfilme aus
der Zeit. Die Nachfrage war gross, und von daher schauen wir uns
am 16.2 um 19 Uhr Teil 2 an. Düsseldorf war zwar geplant, kann
aber wohl warten. Also, kommt, seid dabei, bingt ruhig Familie und
Freunde mit, die der deutschen Sprache nicht ganz mächtig sind,
denn die Untertitel lassen sich gut lesen.

Sissi, The Young Empress – Part 2
On January 19th, the long wait was over – the demand was huge and a total of 15 members
came to watch the movie Sissi. The film was produced in 1955 and has been a favorite
among young and old since it originally premiered. It was the first part of the trilogy. The
beautiful scenery included Lake Tegernsee in Bavaria and scenes in Austria. The actors
Romy Schneider, Karlheinz Böhm and Magda Schneider are fan favorites of German
Heimatfilme of the time. The members who attended enjoyed the movie and the demand
to continue with Part 2 in February was unanimous. So, Dusseldorf, which
was on the schedule for February, can wait. Come an join us on February
16th at 7 pm to watch it. Your German’s needs improvement? No problem –
the subtitles will get you through it. Of course, the bar will be ready to
serve and there will be the usual coffee and cake throughout the evening.

BEAUTIFICATION Beautification
meets every
The beautification team is working again, not yet at normal capacity for Wednesday from
some of our members still choose to stay at home due to the virus, but let’s 8:00 am –1:00pm
hope that getting vaccinated helps to fight it. Besides the routine work the Unless otherwise

the floor tiles were broken), the electricians are installing new LED lamps to save money and we
had again some water leaks. This time however it was in the garden and it was just well water
lines, so it didn’t show on the water bill. The problem with that is there is no documentation about
old water and power lines so it’s always a surprise finding them. But we are working on a docu-
mentation so at least everything new or old lines found will be documented.
Das Beautification Team hat die Arbeit wieder wie gewohnt aufgenommen. Einige Mitglieder few-
hlen leider noch, die auf Grund des Corona Virus noch vorziehen, zu Hause zu bleiben. Aber wir
hoffen, das smit der angefangenen Impfung alles bald wieder besser wird. Neben der normalen
Routinearbeit haben wir angefangen die Ticketbude am Haupteingang zu renovieren. Die Fliesen
der Arbeitsflaeche und des Bodens waren gebrochen und die scharfen Kanten bargen ein Ver-
letzungsrisiko. Die Elektriker legen neue Stromleitungen und installieren LED Lampen, um unsere
Stromkosten weiter zu senken. Leider gab es aber auch wieder einige Wasserrohrbrueche, zum
Glueck aber an den Brunnenwasserleitungen, so dass es nicht die Wasserrechnung betraf. Lei-
der gibt es ueber die alten Wasser- und Stromleitungen nur wenig Dokumentation, so dass es oft
eine Ueberraschung ist, etwas “neues” zu finden. Aber wir arbeiten daran, alles
was neu installiert wird oder bei Arbeiten entdeckt wird, zu dokumentieren.

MEMBERS WHO HAVE PASSED
We are deeply sorry to inform you that one of our members Mr. Arthur Kohler passed
away on Thursday, January 14, 2021.Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and
friends at this time. Arthur Kohler (Koehler) was a longtime member of the club until he
returned to Ohio for health reasons. He donated a lot to the club and was good friends
with many people in the club. His brother Horst Koehler was the German Federal Presi-
dent for several years.
Arthur Kohler (Koehler) war langjaehriges Mitglied im German American Social Club, bis
er aus Gesundheitsgruenden nach Ohio zurueck kehrte. Er hat dem Club viel
gespendet und war mit sehr vielen Menschen im Club gut befreundet. Sein Bruder Horst
Koehler war der Deutsche Bundespraesident fuer mehrere Jahre.Volume 50, Issue 2
