5 for th?e 19th Bert’s New Golf Shoes Bert is 85 years old and always wanted a pair of soft spike golf shoes like Fred Couples wore on his tour. So, seeing a pair on sale after his round, he bought them. He was so delighted with his purchase, he decided to wear them home to show the Mrs. Walking proudly into the house, he sauntered into the kitchen and said to his wife, “Notice anything different about me?” Margaret at age 83, looked him over and replied, “Nope.” Frustrated, Bert stormed off into the bathroom, undressed and walked back into the kitchen completely naked except for the new golf shoes. Again he asked Margaret, a little louder this time, “Notice anything different NOW?” Margaret looked up and said in her best deadpan response, “Bert, what’s different? It’s hanging down today, it was hanging down yesterday, and it’ll be hanging down again tomorrow.” Furious, Bert yells out, “AND DO YOU KNOW WHY IT’S HANGING DOWN, MARGARET?” “Nope. Not a clue”, she replied. “IT’S HANGING DOWN, BECAUSE IT’S LOOKING AT MY NEW GOLF SHOES!” Without missing a beat old Margaret replies, “You shoulda bought a new hat!”

Barmy Army by Dave Crossley 7 When I joined the Barmy Army 20 For the last month it seems all Kenny years ago little did I know there and I have done after golf is move the couldn’t be a more apt name for the stuff with the help of Kerry. We know new crew. we could have got help but when Hi from the new army, otherwise known you’re throwing wood around to load as Gandolf and the Hobbit. I call him the truck it can be a bit hazardous with the Hobbit, only because of his hairy too many people. If we hadn’t moved it feet nothing to do with his size. daily it would most definitely have been stolen. One I approached had an axe in his hands and was bigger than me; discretion was the better part of valour. The funny one was a guy who said he’d lived in Otonga for 40 years so he had a right. He quickly left. Kenny approached a few guys like only he can. They left after some words. Brian obviously knew something we didn’t when he moved. Our first project Obviously once it’s been moved it was of course the trees being cut down needs to be split and that’s where along the Hemo gorge. As the little kid said in the Mitre 10 Ad. “She’s a pretty big job”. When they first started coming down it was daunting to see the amount of timber which needed cutting and moving. Thanks to a great team of helpers in the first week we managed to start. However, Health & Safety rules meant we could no longer use chainsaws on site. Thanks to the Rotorua network, Toi Ohomai came to the rescue and agreed to cut the logs to a manageable size for moving. A Big Thanks to their forestry crew who continue to help. Equally a massive thanks to all those who helped in the initial working bee. Too many names to mention but thanks to all of you. -continued
