DANCE NEWS September 2021 | Page One MDA IT'S BACK TO DANCE MONTH! CLASSES START 9/13! It may be fall but MDA is getting ready to bloom. We are Dates to Remember blooming where we are planted this September! Things may not go exactly as we plan, but just like flowers, we're going to bloom even in challenging conditions. The following pages will help your budding dancer blossom into full bloom! MDA OPEN HOUSE Speaking of blooming...Get a sneak peek of what is to come this fall at our open house on Tuesday, September 7, 5-7pm. Stop by Sept. 1 - Sept. 22 the studio for the opportunity to: MDACT Meet the teachers Little Caesars Pizza Kit See the studio Fundraiser Get your dancer's shoe sizes Win prizes! If you can't make it, we understand. The shoe sizing kit will be available at the studio when you come for class. OUR ONLINE DANCE BOUTIQUE IS OPEN We are proud to announce our online dance boutique is open! Sept. 7, 5-7pm We know that you may not be able to get the required items by MDA Open House the start of class. That's okay! It took extra time to build the new boutique but the results are an easy-to-use store filled with quality items. To use the boutique, simply go to our website. Click on the "What to Wear" tab at the top of the page. Once there, click on the box containing: HTTPS://WWW.SHOPNIMBLY.COM/MARIETTADANCE A new page will open with our boutique. Boxes 1-8 contain class options. Click on your dancer's class. Once in the class, you will see class notes that list requirements for the class. Also, below the class notes are scrolling pictures. Requirements are September 13 designated by a pink asterisk and the word "required." The other First Day of Dance Classes options shown in the pictures are recommendations but are not required for class. The boxes after boxes 1-8 also contain recommendations but are not required. These recommendations are offered as guidance for what is appropriate for class. It is not mandatory that you purchase your dancewear there. The recommendations may also be a great way for relatives who don't live in town to support your dancer. DANCE NEWS September 2021 | Page Two NEW AIR PURIFIERS Well before Covid, Marietta Dance Academy was committed to safety and cleanliness. For dancers' physical safety, we installed quality dance flooring and train a dancer's entire body not just teach cool tricks seen on Instagram. We also do everything we can to create a safe space where September 6 a dancer can express themselves and grow as artists. In the time of Covid, we've followed National best practices to keep everyone safe. In the summer of 2020, that Pawpaw Day included adding an electrostatic sprayer to sanitize classrooms & Sept. 16 equipment between classes. This summer we are proud to add another safety tool: Medify Air Purifiers. Air purifiers have become standard in most classrooms and businesses. Medify Air Purifiers use HEPA filters to remove 99.9% of particles and are large enough to filter the air of the studio every 30 minutes. While air purifiers National won't keep us safe from Covid by themselves, they have been Talk like a proven effective when used with other best Covid practices. Pirate Day Sept. 19 MDACT FUNDRAISER Marietta Dance Academy Competition Team (MDACT) is back to fundraising. Each year team members have the option to participate in a variety of fundraisers. All funds raised are used for competition International fees and costumes. From September 1 through September 22 Day of Peace MDACT is selling Little Ceasar's pizza kits. So, if you'd like to have a Sept. 21 few Little Ceasar's pizzas in the freezer for busy nights, see a member of MDACT before September 22. Later this fall, MDACT is planning to sell bath bombs and hold a wreath raffle. Details will be relayed as soon as they are available. First Day MDA IS PAINTING THE TOWN PURPLE of Fall Sept. 22 Downtown Marietta is supporting the MOV Walk to End Alzheimer's by painting the town purple! Beginning August 30 you will see the windows of downtown decked out in their best purple, including National MDA. During the week, businesses will have paint buckets out to fill Pancake Day with donations to end Alzheimer's. Sept. 26
DANCE NEWS September 2021 | Page Three Professional Dance TEAM MDA WALKS TO END ALZHEIMER'S in the Region This year MDA will have a team in the MOV Walk to End Alzheimer's. The walk is on Saturday, September 18, at Tomlinson Park in Williamstown. The walk is about 2 miles and crosses the Williamstown bridge. Anyone who would like to join our team can go to http://act.alz.org/goto/TeamMariettaDanceAcademy and click on the "Join Our Team" button. Please note that the organizers of the Walk to End Alzheimer's require that anyone who wants to Kaplan New Works in the Park walk registers online. Dancers are more than welcome to join but Sept. 23-26 Eden Park's Seasongood Pavilion must be accompanied by their adult. If you can't be at the walk but Free Performances want to support Team Marietta Dance Academy go to the address www.cballet.org above and click the "Donate to the Team" button. HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH SEPT 15 - OCT 15 Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates Spanish-speaking countries of Central and South America. Hispanic dance represents both its roots in the indigenous dance of these countries but also the influence of European styles of dance brought with the Spanish. Here are three dances in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month: Monica bill Barnes & Company "The Running Show" Ballet Folklórico: translates as "folk Sept. 25 University of Akron dance" these are dances performed www.dancecleveland.org by villages for fun. Found across the Southwest United States, Mexico, and into South America each region has a unique folklórico. Cumbia: is the national dance of Columbia. Traditionally this dance is danced by couples at night with the Outdoor performances in Cleveland woman holding a handkerchief www.cainpark.com wrapped lit candle wrapped in her Cain Park hosts one dance company left hand. in September: Bachata: is a relatively new dance starting in the clubs of the Dominican Republic.
