= CSULA STUDENT SUCCESS, GRADUATION AND CAREER PLACEMENT CATEGORY II FEE INITIATIVE To be implemented in Fall 2012 $80 per quarter
INITIATIVE GOALS Strengthen supplemental support services for undergraduates and graduates that: 1) Improve academic advisement and increase retention and graduation rates. 2) Increase personal development services. 3) Expand access to teaching and learning technologies and tools. 4) Improve career and graduate school opportunities.
Retention and Graduation Support The Student Success Fee provides: • New staff advisors to support and complement faculty advising. As a result, all students, especially first-time freshmen, transfer, new graduate and undeclared students, will receive advisement that saves them time to degree, and therefore, tuition. For 2012- 13, the student to advisor ratio will be reduced from 608:1 to 453:1.
Retention and Graduation Support Additional improvements: • A retention coordinator to assist students toward graduation success. • Expanded tutorial services; continuation of the Take 5 Mentoring program; study group facilitators and supplemental instruction support for undergraduate students.
Student Development and Wellness The Student Success Fee also enhances: • Veterans Services through new outreach, orientation and programs. • Support for Summer Bridge to increase the academic readiness of students entering the University. • Services for students with disabilities, including new programs and outreach initiatives.
Student Development The Student Success Fee will offer: • Improved access to career counselors to work with academic advisors and faculty in each college. • An enhanced mentoring program pairing students with professionals in related disciplines. • Internships, professional networking and job shadowing programs with CSULA alumni.
Enhanced Student Learning Transition the IT infrastructure to flexible, cloud-based services: • Serve students wherever they are – on campus, at home, at work, at leisure. • Students can connect to cloud-based services using any compatible device of their choice. • Learning resources, applications, productivity tools and storage are available anytime, anywhere. • Lower costs by capitalizing on evolving open learning systems where learning resources are cooperatively created and shared.
Enhanced Student Learning Create and support both virtual and physical environments to optimize student learning. • Provide classrooms, labs and open access areas with the best technology to support both teaching and learning. • Implement new tools to find, organize and use content from a repository of courses and student projects. • Provide low-cost to no-cost site license software and a technology loaner program. • Integrate the use of technology applications across multiple platforms (e.g., iPads, smartphones, tablets).
Evaluation and Assessment • All implemented Student Success Fee programs and activities will be evaluated annually. • Programs and activities shown not to be achieving their stated goals and objectives will be modified or discontinued and replaced with programs and activities that are effective.
