Mission
Our purpose is to provide resources and support individuals who are affected by learning disabilities
within the Niagara Region. We provide leadership in learning disabilities advocacy, research,
education and services.

What is a learning disability (LD)?
A LD is a neurological disorder that persistently and significantly has an impact on the ability to
learn and use academic and other skills for an individual with average to above average
intelligence.
How common are LDs?
It is estimated that 1 to 2 children in
every classroom has a learning
disability, with many of these children
going undiagnosed. So that means that
about 5-10% of children face these
issues daily. Obtaining support for LDs
early is incredibly important as research
has shown that children can begin to fall
behind exponentially as compared to
their typically functioning peers as time
progresses.
Who is the Learning Disabilities Association of Niagara Region (LDANR)?
We are a non-profit organization that provides direct-impact programming to children with LDs
living in Niagara. Each year LDANR provides approximately 600 program spots for children
between the ages of 4-16 years. Over 200 volunteers work within our programs. These
programs have received rave reviews from parents and children and are supported and
evaluated by key researchers in the LD field.
Unfortunately we cannot always provide support to all of the children seeking a placement in
our programs. This past year we had almost 200 unserved spots, representing youth who were
not able to obtain placements in one of our programs.

about what book was going to be read at night together, anticipating
how many chapters he would make it through and being so excited to
receive a book as a special surprise. What a difference!”

What is the need?
As a non-for-profit organization, we rely on donations and grants to operate and allow us to
open up new spots for youth. We have an upcoming Trivia Night fundraiser to help raise the
much-needed funds to support Niagara youth facing LDs. This event has the potential to allow
us to increase the number of youth we can serve with our programs and make transformative
change for our organization.
Why support the LDANR?
LDANR is inviting your organization to become a key sponsor for our upcoming Trivia Night
fundraising event. This event will involve outreach to local professionals, parents, teachers,
youth, and the media during our campaign leading up to the event and during the event itself.
Our goal is raise awareness regionally about LDs and second to raise much needed funds to
allow the LDANR to continue offering programs and expand our offerings to the youth who are
currently in need of our support. Together we can be a catalyst around real change for youth in
the Niagara Region.
