Staff Spotlight: 4th Grade Homeroom Teachers LaiYin Ng - Ms. Ng joined us in 2013, making this her ninth year teaching at HFCA! She has taught kindergarten, 1st, 5th and 6th grades at Holy Family, and currently shepherds 4A as homeroom teacher covering Religion, and Science for all the 4th and 5th grade students. Prior to joining Holy Family, Ms. Ng worked at St. Philomena Early Learning Center for 27 years, and holds a Masters in Education with a Montessori Emphasis from Chaminade University. Her favorite part of teaching is when students light up and have ah-ha moments, and all the hands-on experiments she is able to plan as a Science Teacher. In her spare time you will find her around the dinner table with family and friends, playing with her dog Inu, walking, hiking and enjoying POUND exercise classes. Alyssa Soto - Ms. Soto first started as a substitute teacher at HFCA, and quickly fell in love with teaching. This is her second year as a full time teacher, and she is currently teaching 4th grade social studies and 5th grade Hawaiian history, and is also the homeroom teacher for 4B. She holds a bachelor's degree in Marketing Communications from Chaminade University, and is working towards her teaching certificate. Ms. Soto loves to teach because of the positive impact she can make on her students' lives, no matter how small. HFCA feels like family to Ms. Soto because her daughter has attended the school since she was 3 years old, and she holds her experiences at Holy Family close to her heart. In her free time she enjoys shopping, spending time with her daughter and catching up on TV shows.
2022 HFCA Hōʻike Our hōʻike was so much fun! Students experienced a day of Hawaiian cultural games, activities and performances, and we were able to raise $9,332 towards our $10,000 goal. Donations will be accepted on the Get Movin' Fund Hub until May 8. We’d like to say a huge mahalo to assistant principal Jocelyn Burch for creating such a wonderful experience for our students; all our staff members for jumping in to help; the parents/guardians who volunteered their time and donated supplies; and to our PTG for sponsoring the Kona Ice truck. We appreciate you all so much!
